Piriton Syrup
by thriftygiftyisme =Piriton Syrup= I have previously used Piriton tablets for allergies and hay fever, but this review is based on my daughters recent experience with Piritron Syrup. =Candy Floss= My daughter had some new Candy Floss given her, I did not recognise the brand, but it was brought locally and as we were on our way home, ... she started eating it in the car. =The Event= She's eating the candy floss and say it tastes different, as I explained to her that different brands taste difference, before she carried on eating, I asked her to look for a use-by date, just in case it was out of date, she found that all ok, so she carried on eating it. Then I get - mum I don't feel well, she was sat by me in the front of the car, and I noticed that her face was getting redder, her lips swelling and she was starting to get raspy in breathing. She was starting to panic, so was I. More luck than judgement we were 1 minute away from our local NHS walk in centre, I suffer with some food allergies, and have to carry a epi-pen, so to an extent I was prepared in my mind, and toss up of stop, call an ambulance, panic like hell, or try to stay calm for a minute and get her to the NHS centre. Logically made sense. =At the Surgery= I rang the surgery from the car park as I was getting us out of the car, the receptionist came and met us, rushed us straight through, where a doctor gave my daughter some Piriton Syrup, straight away you could see the difference, and within 5 minutes everything was back to normal. We were given the bottle of Pitrion syrup to take home and to give my daughter a dose before bed and the next morning. =Worth its weight in gold= Literally this syrup was worth its weight in gold, we were lucky it was a mild allergy and touch wood we have had no reactions since. I make sure that there is a bottle of Piritron in the house, I am trying to convert my daughter to take tablets, so that it will be easier to carry tablets around. =Cost= A 150ml bottle of Piriton can be purchased for around £4.00 =Treatment= The active ingredients chlorphenamine maleate. Chlorphenamine belongs to a group of drugs called antihistamines which help relieve the symptoms of some allergies and itchy skin rashes. =Used for= Conditions including- Allergic symptoms Prickly heat Itchy rash of Chicken pox =Recommend Dose= Piritron is not suitable for children under 12 months old. Children 1-2 yrs, - 2.5ml every 4 to 6 hours - Maximum daily dose of 2 x 2.5ml spoonfuls in 24hrs Through to adults and children over 12 - 2 x 5ml spoonfuls, every 4-6 hrs - Maximum daily does 12 x 5ml spoonfuls in 24 hrs. ******* With any new medication always check the dosage, the information leaflet, and ask the pharmacy, or the GP....... =Would I recommend= I would highly recommend this syrup, it felt like a lifesaver for us. Piriton Syrup
by daisy0 Many years ago when I was eleven years old I went on a school trip to Switzerland , it turned out to be a bit of a nightmare for me because while I was there I started getting itchy eyes and a runny nose really bad. I had never had these symptoms before this school trip. On returning home my symptoms disappeared only to return the next ... summer. I must have some point gone to a doctor and been diagnosed with Hayfever. My symptoms were never that bad and always disappeared after a short time. However as I got older, into my twenties, the hayfever seemed to get worse and it seemed to last longer. I don`t know why this happened but I did eventually go back to the doctor who advised me to take Piriton Syrup when the symptoms started. I remember this syrup coming in a large brown bottle costing only 50p ( well this was a good 30 years ago!). More importantly it actually worked very well and I did not need to take much of it for my hayfever to get better. I am not somebody who likes taking tablets and medicine at the best of time but I had no worries about taking Piriton because I only took it as needed. Of course since then Piriton Syrup has become more widely used for all sort of allergies and now comes in a neat box and you can also buy a tablet form of the product. It also costs a lot more than the 50p bottles that I first started buying.Luckily as I have got older my Hayfever has completely gone. Read the complete review |

Piriton Syrup
by nteer09 Piriton has been a life saver during my childrens bout of chicken pox. Prior to giving them piriton they were irritable and were scratching regardless of the creams I kept applying. We found that they were not sleeping as they were in too much pain, until we started using this. Piriton is a antihistamine suitable for children ... over the age of 12 months, it is also suitable for adults. It helps relieve the itch of chicken pox, hayfever, insect bites and allergies-plus it does make you quite drowsy. Piriton was the only thing that got my children to sleep for longer than half an hour. It is a clear syrup which smells like a nasty cough medicine, but tastes like a watered down version of buttercup syrup. It comes in a yellow and orange box. As both of my children are 2 and under, they were only allowed one small spoonful. The dosage for children between 1-2 years is 2.5ml twice a day with a gap of at least 4 hours and a maximum of twice per day, 2-6 years is 2.5ml every 4-6 hours a maximum of six times per day. 2-6 years can have a large (5ml spoonful every 4-6 hours) up to a maximum of six times per day. Adults/children over the age of 12, can have two large spoonfuls every 4-6 hours-with a maximum dosage of twelve spoons per day. The advantage to piriton is that it can be used alongside calpol. I would definitely use this again. At the moment I have been having trouble sleeping and it has worked wonders for me aswell. It cost us £3.50 for a 150ml bottle, but despite three of us using it, there is still plenty left. Read the complete review |
