Salter Rubberized Platform Electronic Scale
by FrostBite So I have a thing about weighing myself ever since I piled on two stone and reached 11 stones through my own laziness. Sheer determination, far too much running and a good set of scales saw me through and I shed the weight (beware these scales may result in you having to spend way too much money on new clothes!) The company Salter ... havebeen in the business of weighing scales since the 1760s and have continued in this line of both kitchen anf bathroom scales to the present day. In 1972 the company was bought and lit into different components such as housewares and industrials. So I was looking for black scales to suit a clean and tidy look in my bathroom, plus I also have black towel sets so it makes sense. I searched the internet and the same make kept popping up time and again 'salter'. I visited Argos and found these Salter electronic scales as an online exclusive for £22.99 which is inexpensive for scales of this type. I did not want to pay the excessive delivery charges so I opted to have the item sent to store as I go to town anyway. I unpacked the scales from the cardboard box and little polystyrene cotners that seem to drop annoying bits of white stuff all over the floor! The scales are matt black on the top due to the rubberised coating, they are a good size easily fitting my size seven feet on 33x32cm. The display is large and clear which is needed when you have to view your own weight from such a height, the display is 8x4cm. The scales weigh in both imperial and metric which is good for users of all ages or different purposes. The most positive part is the 15 year manufacturers guarantee! Now the scales are great yo help you keep track of your general weight and nothing more; they are not the most accurate and this is namely due to only weighing in 100g increments. I prefer water, muscle and fat scales for my accurate readings but as I say these are great for the general purpose of weighing and maintaining your weight for example. The non grip surface is ideal for weighing bare foot and is not too much of a shock to the soles when weighing yourself of a morning. The scales are best used on a flat hard surface, I use them on the lino of my bathroom. There are some discrepancies with the weights on the display sometimes by a few pounds but as I say for general weight management they do the job sufficiently; I have just recently become more of an expert than a novice so have upgraded! The display is fantastic and it cannot be argued that the large display works wonders, my mother finds anything hard to read even with her glasses and she could see this! So overall I would recommend these scales for the purpose they were intended, to weigh yourself and to keep on top of your health. However, if you are keen to make specific targets or deem yourself an expert with health and nutrition please do not opt for this model. Good luck! Read the complete review |

Salter 9114 Silver Body Analyser Scale
by kiss_me2070 Scales in General = = = = = = = = My parents used to have some really old scales when weighing ourselves, how-ever they got rid of these about a year ago and they were never replaced. Being very self conscious about my body and weight I like to keep a regular check on my weight to see if it's going up or down. I wanted to ... purchase some new scales but didn't want to spend a fortune on them. I looked in the Argos catalogue and found a large range of scales, varying in different prices. The one's which stood out were some Salter scales. I knew Salter were a well-known brand as I have some Salter Kitchen scales, in which I have been very impressed with the quality of them. I immediately decided I was going to purchase some scales by salter and saw they had some body analyser scales. These sounded great so I reserved the scales and went to pick them up the following morning. The Scales = = = = = The Scales are made by Salter and come in one colour which is Silver. The scales feature and athletic mode, body fat measurement, body hydration score and a child mode making it suitable for everyone in the family. I work out a lot so thought these would be great as I could use the athletic mode and could also see my hydrations core as well as I often think I don't drink enough water during the day. The scales are very light as they are made from plastic which does mean they only take the weight of people up to 23 stone. Well, this wasn't a problem for me, so I knew these would be perfect for me to use. The scales have a large LCD display in where the information is displayed when you step onto the scales. The scales requite 2 batteries which are included with the scales and they have a low battery warning so you know when you need to purchase new batteries. The thing I like about the scales is that you can input different people into the scales and it will save this information in the memory. You can fill in the information for up to 12 people. Not only do the scales tell you how much you weight but it also measures body fat and how hydrated your body is. The scales come with a 15 year guarantee so I knew/was hoping that the scales would last a good while before they needed replacing. Price/Availability = = = = = = = = I purchased the scales from my local Argos store for £9.99 which was good value as they are normally priced at £14.99. This offer has been on for about a month now and I'm not sure when it's due to end. How do the Scales Work? = = = = = = = = = = = The scales use a measurement called a Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis which means a minute current is sent through your body, via your feet and legs. The current flows easily through the lean muscular tissue, which has high fluid content, but not easily through fat. Therefore by measuring your body's impedence (resistance to the current), the quantity of muscle can be determined. From this, the quantity of fat and water can then be estimated. The current that passes through you is very safe and is only a very small current and you will not be able to feel it. This does how-ever mean that anyone with a device such as a pacemaker should not use the scales as a precaution as it may disrupt that device. Using the Scales = = = = = = = = In the box with the scales you also get an instruction manual which tells you how to use and set up the scales as well as input different people into the memory. The instruction manual tells you why you should measure things such as body water and body fat and what they mean. In the book is also a chart for a male and female, of what the normal healthy body fat and total water percentage should be. As I work out regularly and go to the gym a few times a week I would be using the athletic mode on the scales. There are various different buttons located just under the LCD screen which tell you what they are. Setting up the personal data on the scales is very simple when following the instructions in the manual. I did read the instructions a few times before attempting to do this on the scales but it only took a few minutes to input my details such as gender, age and height. I haven't used the child mode on the scales, so I can't comment on this. You can use the scales to weigh yourself as normal without finding out any other details about you such as body fat, etc. This can be done within a few minutes of switching the scales on. The athletic mode is easy to use simply be pressing the up button and when the athlete figure appears on the screen this means it's in athletic mode, when this is not on the screen this is suitable for people who don't exercise on a regular basis. I find the scales quite easy to use but do find that the information on the LCD screen disappears quite quickly, and you can't change the duration the results appear on the screen. The screen is very clear and is easy to read, how-ever if the light is shining on the screen this can make it hard to read results as you are standing on the actual scales. Overall Opinion = = = = = = = The scales are extremely light-weight, how-ever I do fear that this makes then a little flimsy and quite easy to break or snap a corner off if you are not careful with them. I keep the scales in their original box to keep them safe and from any damage. I found the scales really easy to use and they were simple to set up. So far on the scales I have input details for me and my sister so we can select our profiles when weighing ourselves and checking our body fat, etc. The instruction book that came with the scales is extremely helpful as it goes into great detail about the scales, how to use them and what the results mean. If you find any warning indicators on the LCD screen it tells you what these means in the book as well. I thought this was really handy. In terms of value I think the scales are good value, although they do feel slightly cheap due to them being made from plastic. The scales are a lovely colour and would look great in a modern looking bathroom. These scales are a great addition to our bathroom and I will continue to use them to monitor my weight. Salter 9018S SV3R Electronic Bathroom Scale
by topsyturvy With having begun watching my weight this year, I had always relied on my non electronic scales but the thing with them that I hate is that they are not precise to the exact half pound. I had used my friends Weight Watchers scales and hers went to the exact quarter of a pound so it was time for me to start looking for the scales for me. ... I had looked around to see what reviewers had been saying on electronic scales and I was tempted to get the Weight Watchers ones but comments weren't that great. However, for Salter they got higher marks and I have this brand on my kitchen scales which are great. APPEARANCE I opted for these Salter scales as I really liked the appearance of them, they are electronic glass scales and you would worry that being glass they would crack but they do like stylish and are very trendy. They have a digital screen at the top surrounded by a thick silver metal border where you can see your weight and they are supported underneath with weights and silver bars to create an even balance when you are standing on these to check your weight. They are quite heavy but you just need to be very careful with these when using them. SALTER 9018S SCALES These scales come delivered in a blue box with all of the details inside, you get information and the scales are very securely boxed in with them being glass. Once you pull the scales out of the box, what you first need to do to get them to work is pull out the plastic tab which stops the battery from working. I have to say this was a nightmare as I pulled it and it ripped the top off so I had to get a pen and then push out the battery to slot it back in and finally I had power! Once the scales were on I placed them on my bathroom floor, these scales have to be on a very flat surface to get them to work. I have mine on a tiled floor always which is the most ideal as they will never be off balance. These scales run on a CR2032 lithium battery, it says two but I have never has to replace the battery yet as it lasts a while, they battery is easy enough to get in and out though for replacing it. With these scales, you can change it to do the measurements you want by clicking the button next to the battery slot and it can be changed from kg, to lb's or stones and lb's which is what I use and I'm sure most will set it to. Once you have got this all set you are ready to get using them. Once these are placed, never tip scales or the weight will go off, always keep them flat. Just press your heel down around the middle of the scales and then the numbers will appear on the digital screen at the top. Once you are at '0' then step on evenly placing your feet on each side, I place my feet over the metal bars underneath to keep straight. The scales will show the number and then it will flash and this is your weight, if you are not confident, you can always weight yourself a couple of times but these seem to be so accurate that I never have to do it more than once. Once your weight is displayed it will show you it to the nearest quarter of a lb which I find great as even if you haven't lost much one week, even to see a 1/4 lb makes you feel that bit better. The scales feel very safe to stand on even being glass, and they are easy enough to clean. Being glass, they do get a bit dusty and marked easily but just make sure to give them a wipe every so often and then they will be fine. I do like these scales, they are reliable and they look great in my bathroom and I'd gladly recommend them to anyone needing bathroom scales. They are very precise and I never have any issues with the weight being off. The scales switch off as soon as your weight has flashed up so they don't drain the battery either. COST I got my Salter scales from Amazon, they were very safely delivered and I paid £15 for them but I have noticed the price has since dropped to £14.24 from Amazon for these now which is well worth the money.
