When the bacterial culture in a yoghurt drink is registered as a trademark, it's hard not to ask questions when browsing the ingredients of a product like Actimel. Caution is an understandable approach to bacteria anyway (good or bad), particularly if it's about to be ingested; but what about that ® symbol? It seems to imply scientists created the very uniqueness of the bacteria and are trying to protect their mutation. So, is Actimel really Frankenstein in a pot? And when we're told that everything from GM food to aspirin are fine one day, only to be told they may be killing us the next: Are probiotic yoghurt drinks really that safe? INTRODUCING ...

I registered on "dooyoo" for the prime purpose of passing on my experiences of Actimel over the past 3 months. For many years now I have suffered with chronic indigestion and acid reflux whenever I drank too much red wine, ate fresh white bread, consumed a very spicy curry and many other things that I guess are generally recognised as not being very good for sensitive stomachs. Night times have often been very uncomfortable and on the worst occassions I have actually choked on my own stomach acid - an appalling experience I have to say. Have I told you about how my dentist butchered my mouth yet? No? Well I'll save that for another day. The end result is a pretty massive infection that has spread from my mouth to my sinuses and I'm now on my third course of double strength antibiotics in two months to try and sort it out.
