When the bacterial culture in a yoghurt drink is registered as a trademark, it's hard not to ask questions when browsing the ingredients of a product like Actimel. Caution is an understandable approach to bacteria anyway (good or bad), particularly if it's about to be ingested; but what about that ® symbol? It seems to imply scientists created the very uniqueness of the bacteria and are trying to protect their mutation. So, is Actimel really Frankenstein in a pot? And when we're told that everything from GM food to aspirin are fine one day, only to be told they may be killing us the next: Are probiotic yoghurt drinks really that safe? INTRODUCING ... I had seen a lot of TV advertising for Actimel so when I saw it in Tesco in packs of eight little bottles, buy one, get one free, I decided to try it. I frequently get a bloated feeling after eating and my digestive system can be a little sensitive at the best of times so I decided that if I tried this for sixteen days (enough bottles in the two packs) I would soon know if it worked for me. I really did not fancy the strawberry or pineapple flavours that were on the shelf, so I opted for the original flavour. These drinks come in little plastic bottles with foil pull off tops and they should be kept in the fridge. The taste was just like drinking a ... Read the complete review

I registered on "dooyoo" for the prime purpose of passing on my experiences of Actimel over the past 3 months. For many years now I have suffered with chronic indigestion and acid reflux whenever I drank too much red wine, ate fresh white bread, consumed a very spicy curry and many other things that I guess are generally recognised as not being very good for sensitive stomachs. Night times have often been very uncomfortable and on the worst occassions I have actually choked on my own stomach acid - an appalling experience I have to say. Consequently, Rennie has been my friend! I think I've personally kept Bayer Health Care in business for ... Read the complete review

Have I told you about how my dentist butchered my mouth yet? No? Well I'll save that for another day. The end result is a pretty massive infection that has spread from my mouth to my sinuses and I'm now on my third course of double strength antibiotics in two months to try and sort it out. Antibiotics are great, a marvel of modern medicine. The problem is that broad spectrum antibiotics also kill all of the bacteria normally present in our gut that help us digest food. This is why diarrhoea is so common when we take antibiotics. All of the antibiotics I've been taking had left me with a very upset tummy so when I saw some actimel I decided to try ... I don't generally think of myself of someone who is swayed by advertising, but I did find myself being drawn towards Actimel after seeing quite a few adverts for it on TV. The adverts centred on a rather cheeky looking young lad being totally embarrassed by his mum who was so full of energy she was almost swinging from the trees!! According to the advert this was because she drank Actimel every day! These adverts appeared about six months after I had had my second daughter and my energy levels were at an all time low! In fact I was falling asleep almost as soon as I had put my children to bed! So I thought - what the heck! I'll give these a try! The Actimel ... Read the complete review
