Advantages: Nice Taste,, Perfect for Breakfast
Disadvantages: Some flavours taste a bit artificial
I am a marketing departments dream come true. If there is a good ad on TV I just have to try the product. I love ad’s. I love the jingles`(ooohhh Bodyform, Bodyform for youoooo) I love the terrible acting. Esure is the best example I can think of (“It’s just a commercial woman”). Sometimes though, just occasionally, I find a product I actually like. I was aware of Actimel before the current advertising campaign. I knew all about topping up my good bacteria and all of that carry on but it didn’t really grab me as something I needed to try. Then, what do you know, they make an advert with a slightly mad woman prancing about the office and pretending to play her computer keyboard like a piano and it’s enough to send me heading straight to Asda. Once I’d decided to buy I was faced with a variety of similar products but was I tempted or confused? No I was not. I liked the advert you see. What is it supposed to do? According to the packaging Actimel is a probiotic yogurt drink containing L.casei imunitas and sweeteners. The claim is that this stuff helps you maintain a healthy immune system. The bottle is small, white, plastic canister containing 100 grams of thin milky liquid which, I find is just enough to drink straight from the bottle on my short trip to work each morning. I have long since stopped drinking this in the hope it has any favourable affect of my health, it can only help I presume. I generally feel well and healthy but it could of course be in the mind, or just good luck. Who knows? I continue to drink this because I like it and as I am not really a breakfast person this does the job nicely. The Taste The taste and consistency is that of a very thin yoghurt. I have tried all the flavours apart from Multifruit and while they are not unpleasant they are slightly artificial tasting but I would take the Strawberry if there was no Original to be had.
The Price Asda are currently selling 8x100g for £2.18 and 4x100 for £1.34. In terms of flavours there are Original, Original fat free (which is my tipple of choice) Strawbery, Orange and Multifruit. There is also talk of a fat free pineapple flavour which sounds nice but at the time of writing I could get hold of any in either Asda or my local co-op. The Verdict It gets the thumbs up from me, a good breakfast substitute and a pleasant drink
