Aloe Vera is a well known perennial plant, that can be bought at garden centres for around £1.50 a plant.
It is grown in areas and the plant and originates from Northern Africa, the Canary Islands and Cape Verne, its healing properties have been used for centuries and it is commonly used in herbal medicines.
The plant itself has long thick stems which taper at the ends. The stems are thick and it has been widely grown as an ornamental plant. If grown in the right conditions it can reach 24-39 in tall, a very impressive plant indeed. it prefers well-drained sandy potting soil and bright sunny conditions. It cannot grow in the shade It can be planted into the ground or in pots, but it doesn't have much tolerance in winter to the frost or snow , so this will have to be moved if you plant outside in your garden.
Aloe Vera has many medical properties and is often used in cosmetics as toners, cleansers, face packs, shaving gels and moisturisers. it is such a versatile plant that you can find it in lots of beauty products.
It is also used to ease the heat out of burns, you can snap the stem of the plant and rub the juice of the Aloe Vera plant straight on to a burn as the liquid or sap inside the stem is thick and clear and will help sooth the burnng sensation.
The clear gel contained within the leaf makes an excellent treatment for wounds, burns and other skin disorders
It is also said to promote healing if you have an open wound. Internal intake of Aloe vera has been linked with improved blood glucose levels in diabetics.
The edible parts of the plant are the leaves or stems and the seeds. These have to be prepared properly before using so it is best to research the ways to use the Aloe Vera before eating.
You can buy the juice of the Aloe Vera in the health shops such as Holland and Barrett as it has been prepared for you and will cost around £6 or more depending on which size bottle you buy. The juice of the Aloe Vera is used as a tonic to help blood pressure, reduce sugars in the body and help cleanse the blood as well as other healing properties.
Aloe vera can be bought in gel form or creams and each can be used for it's healing properties. these can also be found in Health shops or online at various prices.
If your looking for a good herbal remedy then this is a great one to have around the house, you can grown the plant and use the Aloe vera extract or you can but it from the shops, its up to you. personally I wouldn't be without it. It has so many useful properties.
