Andrews Liver Salts
Advantages: Works Quickly
Disadvantages: Tastes Foul
That evening and still feeling a little green around the gills I headed for the medicine cabinet hoping that I would find something to ease my symptoms which consisted of being bloated. Having digestive discomfort and generally feeling lousy. I happened upon a rather odd shaped plastic tub which turned out to be Andrews Salts. The front of the box stated that the product provided fast and effective relief from upset stomach. I hastily skimmed over the product label and discovered to my relief that it was also suitable for those with indigestion, excess acid, upset stomach, constipation and thank goodness the symptoms of over-indulgence.
The box itself is constructed of thick white plastic with a blue pop-up lid which I was pleased to say was easy to open. I am fed up with some containers which either take forever to open due to a complex design or alternatively have an ill-fitting lid which spills half the product before you even get to use it. There is a safety seal under the plastic lid too handy so you know that the product hasn't been tampered with before you use it. The product itself consists of sugar sized grains of white powder. I was not overly impressed with the product fragrance if you can call it that. In fairness I was under the weather so the scent of most things actually turned my stomach. So perhaps not a fair assessment on my part.
It is important to read the directions for use before trying this product. Doses are different for Adults and Children. For upset stomach , indigestion and over-indulgence measure one level 5ml spoonful into a glass of water and drink. This can be repeated up to a maximum of four times a day. If you are using the product to overcome constipation use two 5ml spoonfuls and take morning and at night. For use in children simply half the adult dose. Be aware that this product is not suitable for use in children under the ages of three years.
When your feeling unwell the last thing you want is to drink something that tastes unpleasant and smells bad. I got my glass of water added a spoon of Andrews Salts to it and stirred watching it fizz around the glass. I have to say I really struggled to drink this potion down. It wasn't particularly unpleasant reminding me of soluble paracetamol. It would have been more bearable if it had a fruit taste and I was glad that I managed to hold onto it and wasn't sick.
Soon after taking it I was aware that I became a little bit more windy than usual however I was surprised that it did seem to make a difference and rapidly eased my unsettled stomach. I only needed two doses which I was pleased about. I am unsure as to how this works with constipation as I have not used it for this purpose however I would certainly recommend it for over-indulgence. I'm not sure how this product managed to find its way into my medicine cabinet however I was pleased that it was there. However I am unsure how much you would have to pay for it. Overall a fantastic product which works really well. It just needs a pleasant flavour to make it more bearable.
Read the label before use as this product is not suitable for people with certain medical conditions. In addition overuse can cause diarrhoea.
