Having used Bach Rescue Remedy Spray and Drops for a couple of years and found them quite helpful in reducing stress and helping me stay calm, I thought I would give the new Bach product, Rescue Night, a try. I often have difficulty dropping off to sleep and the blurb on the back of this pack sounded promising - just a couple of droplets would supposedly give you a natural nights sleep.

The first advantage of this product is that it's natural - it is a combination of flower essences developed by Dr Bach, which should combine to help you sleep. As well as the flower essences, however, it also includes sodium benzoate (preservative), xylitol (sweetener), malic acid and glycerine, so that's worth being aware of, though most sleep aids will have a much longer and less desirable list of ingredients. It is also alcohol free, unlike the Rescue Remedy Spray/Drops.

The second advantage is that it's easy to use - it is available both as a spray and drops, which means no tablet-swallowing or dissolving things in water (though you can put the drops in water if you wish).

Thirdly, although the sweet, floral taste is quite strong at first, you do get used to it and I even grew to quite like it.

However, despite these advantages, the product did have a notable disadvantage - it didn't work for me. It didn't have any effect on my sleep, not even a placebo effect which you might have expected seeing as I thought it would work! I tried it for over a month and saw no improvement in my sleep at all. This may not be the case for everyone but for me, this was a waste of money and a big disappointment.

I have now returned to using the normal Rescue Remedy Spray to calm me down before going to sleep and I find that is more useful.

Summary: I won't be buying it again - stick to the original Rescue Remedy
