Advantages: Boost Energy! Improved Sex life (if you need it), Legal Euphoria!
Disadvantages: Not Cheap, Effect lessens with time!
Korean Ginseng, which is made from the roots of one the 'Panax' genus of plants, has been used for centuries as a supplement. Reportedly the Ginsenosides (not to be confused with genocide) which is the active element of Ginseng can promote, fix and boost a whole host of things. It is considered to be an almost "fix-all" herbal solution.
Some of the claims include its reputed effect to:
Improve Concentration
Boost Energy Levels
Boost Immune System
Improving moods
Boost the libido (sex drive)
You can expect to pay anything upto and over £10 for 30 tablets, thankfully these Boots ones cost around the £5 mark. The price you pay apparantly is dependant on the % of the active element of Ginseng present in the tablets, an thus the quality. However even these comparitvely low-cost ones are still not cheap things if they do not actually work.
I will admit to being a sceptic. Just because something has been used for 1,000's of years, it doesn't mean its any good. I mean the Chinese use Tiger's penis, or Rhino horn in some of their ancient herbal medicines. Would anyone advocate that these days? I think not.
So anyway, long story short a combination of working too hard, doing lots of building/decorating work at home, the stress of a demanding other half (very stressful lol) and all in all, I was pretty worn out. There were many days where I felt tired even just after waking up (thats a bad sign).
Someone at work then recommended giving these Boots Korean Ginseng tables a try. Reluctantly I paid the money (a rip-off?) and gave them a go.
MY OPINION
As sceptical as I am, there is certainly something to these tablets! There is definately more than a "placebo" effect with these. An I do not say that very lightly.
Within the first day of taking these I felt a large surge in energy, and I experienced a euphoric feeling which felt a bit odd, a bit like being drunk to the point of merry (not legless though).
The second day or so, I noticed a big surge in libido. Which wasn't very welcome, as I was glad of the break really. Lets face it, its tiring. lol. In addition I felt much more better able to concentrate and focus.
After about a week or so of continous use, the effects were not very noticeable anymore, or I imagine I had become accustomed to them. For one reason or another (being in a rush in the morning etc) and feeling that I didn't need them anymore. I stopped taking them.
The after effect of stopping taking them, was neglible. Meaning there was no noticeable return to feeling lethargic. So to this day, the rest of the box sits in my cupboard unused. However, if I ever feel run down again in the future I will know where to go!
Summary: Sceptics be warned, Ginseng really works!
