Advantages: Benificial to those with a busy lifestyle, Beneficial to those with deficiencies, Keeps body and mind healthy

Disadvantages: People may substitute food for vitamins, May be harmful in excessive doses

I found that the boots multi-vitamins are great - they are cheap and cheerful!
To be honest I don't think there is much difference between cheaper vit-supplements and expensive as they all contain 100% of our recommended daily allowance (RDA on the label) of vits and minerals.
The tablets are fairly large, pinky in colour and taste quite disgusting (as do most supplements) they come in a fairly tall container with an orange lid and label. The label should tell you which nutrients are in the tablets.

Vitamins play very important roles throughout the body, most vitamins can?t be produced in the body so must be obtained through diet. There are so many vitamins to list and each have different functions, my advice is to look on the side of a cereal packet like Kelloggs they sometimes have a chart giving the functions of vitamins.
Minerals are vital for maintaining normal activity of the bodys cells (including nerve and muscle cells) The also act as catalysts for the absorption of vitamins and the actions of enzymes in the body.

First of all i have to say that the best way to increase your intake of vitamins and minerals is to have a balanced diet especially with a variety of fruit and veg! I also believe food should never be replaced by supplements as other nutrients found in foods are essential to life!

We all know that sometimes this cant be possible due to busier lifestyles, its so much easier to grab fast food than to actually prepare fresh food. In cases like these multivitamins are beneficial. They are also useful for people with deficiencies.

As with any supplement it is important to follow guidelines and to not exceed daily dosage.
Many people believe that if they doubled the daily dosage it would be beneficial to their health - this is not always the case, some vitamins in surplus are excreted in urine and are not harmful in excess (water soluble vitamins such as vitamins C and all the B vitamins) where
as some vitamins the surplus is stored in the liver (fat soluble vitamins such as vitamins A, E, D and K) they accumulate and this may be harmful in great excess!

Pregnant women should always see a doctor before taking any supplements.

Overall i feel that the boots supplements are ideal for those who are on a tight budget but still want to ensure a healthy lifestyle. But i cannot stress enough a balanced diet is the key!!

:o)

I take tablets, and sometimes I wonder if they help or not.

I could do with taking these, as I get run down easily.

Multi-vitamin tablets contain the daily dose of vitamins and minerals that the body needs to function (basically if we didn't intake any vitamins and minerals over a long time we would become very ill and maybe even die)
The tablets are synthetic vitamins but they behave in the same way as naturally occuring vitamins in foods.
You don't always need to consult a doctor before taking them as i would say they are virtually harmless to the average 'well' person (provided the correct dose is taken) although there are some exceptions such as pregnant women that should probably see a doctor before taking supplements.
