Advantages: Good pain relief

Disadvantages: The codeine in them could be an issue for some people

Just before xmas I started to get some really bad headaches that normal tablets did not help with and these were recommended to me by a friend and they wer very effective at eleviating the pain. In the end I put the headaches down to consuming too much coffee and so I cut it out completely for a few weeks and replaced it with green tea and now the headaches are a thing of the past.

The combination of paracetomol and codeine provides welcome relief from a host of different aches and pains, I have only used them to relieve head aches but they can also be used if you have back ache or other indidents of localised pain, naturally the fact that they contain a small amount of codeine means that they are not suitable for everyone as this is effectively an opiate. For that reason these are something I only take when I have quite strong pain as they are not something I would want to take on a regular basis.

You should take two tablets at a time and they are nice and easy to swallow even though there is no outer coating, you should take additional tablets after 4-6 hours and the maximum dosage in a 24 hour period is eight tablets. They can be taken by children but at lower doses however personally these are not something I would give to my child even when they are old enough and I do make sure they are kept secure and at a height, well away from prying hands.

I do find them to be fast acting and they certainly provided pain relief when I was suffering from the headaches. I have not used them in connection with any other pain relief needs and there are a medicine that you have to treat with respect and take sparingly and only when a real need arises.

These cost £2.30 in my local Boots and have a mix of Paracetamol and Codeine but then again that is pretty obvious from the product name. There are 32 tablets in a packet and there is 500mg of paracetomol in each tablet and 8mg of codeine. You do not need a prescription for these tablets but they are stored behind the pharmacy counter so you do have to ask for them, I guess because of the codeine. in them.

Summary: I use them as a last resort
