Advantages: Its Cheap!

Disadvantages: Doesnt work!

I have just spent the best part of 2 hours with my best friend trying in vain for her to get a reading from a pregnancy kit.

The boots pregnancy kit is pretty standard like most other kits, it comes boxed and the wand is wrapped in a foil like wrapping. The instructions are to hold the wand in your urine stream for 5 seconds, no less and no more. Then you are to lay the wand on a flat surface and wait 1 minute for the test to work. You must see a blue line appear in the oval window to indicate the test had worked and then you get your result in the square window which indicates whether or not you are pregnant. The kit claims to have 99% accuracy and to work as well as other leading brands.

My friend purchased 1 pregnancy test kit from boots for £4.99, took it home, followed the instructions.. waited the instructed minute and no result appeared (there must be a line in the oval window to indicate the test has worked)

We thought that maybe she did it wrong or didnt hold it in the urine stream for long enough so went back to Boots and purchased a double (2 tests) kit, again boots own, for just under £7.00.

Again we went home, followed the instructions, reading them over and over to make sure she was doing it correctly and then carried out BOTH tests and again NEITHER of them worked, there was no line appearing in the oval window.

At this point my friend was getting very concerned and upset and also frusrated at how much money she was spending on them. I suggested we go to the supermarket and just buy a name brand which she was reluctant to do so I dragged her there and paid for her to have a predictor test which was £8.95 or £10.50 for a double kit. We took the test home, followed the instructions and within 4 minutes the test worked and showed a result!

In my opinion "you pay for what you get" - a person can not incorrectly use a test 3 times and then correctly use a different brand name. There is clearly a fault in the Boots one or they are very hard to use (not that they should be, the concept of wetting a stick is quite simple)

Their claim to have a result in 1 minute should say it all really, at least the other kits allow 3 or 4 minutes.

Dont waste your money on this kit, pay a few pounds more and get a reliable make.

Summary: Not worth saving the extra few pennies, you pay for what you get on this one!!

I hope you took them back and complained - I would have been furious as they aren't that cheap. I've heard that Superdrug do a cheaper one that's meant to work but only ever used Clearblue myself although not for a few years now. Belinda

I had exactly the same experience!!!

Instead of spending a tenner on a branded one I bought two lab sticks for less than 3 quid on eBay and it worked perfectly!
