Advantages: 99% accurate, it works, easy to use
Disadvantages: A bit expensive, reading doesn't last
Oh my gosh!!!
As some of you might know, I have just started trying for a baby with my husband. Well, last week I had cause to buy a pregnancy test. I will not bore you with the details as I know there are quite a few men on her who don't really want to hear all the ins and outs of the female anatomy but lets just say something didn't arrive that I was expecting and so that's what prompted me to send my husband to Tesco's at 9pm last Friday night. Why couldn't I have told him sooner he said but I think he will have to get used to me being irrational for a little while!
I sent him with specific instructions to get the Clearblue tests as these are the ones I always see advertised on the television and know most about and they are apparently the brand most recommended by Doctors. Also, they are over 99% accurate from the day your period is due so that is also another great benefit, this is not really a situation that you want to get wrong.
The Clearblue range has a great digital pregnancy test which has a digital read out in words that tell you whether you are pregnant are not. I think this is much easier than looking at little lines and seeing if they are pink or blue like some other pregnancy tests. The words will either read:
Not Pregnant
Pregnant
So, there is really no ambiguity there. The Clear blue pregnancy test also has a conception indicator which will tell you when you conceived, another benefit in my opinion. If you get a Pregnant read out it will be accompanied with either 1-2 weeks, 2-3 weeks, 3+ weeks, helping you plan due dates etc and pinpointing when you think you got pregnant.
Clearblue can also be used to detect pregnancy 4 days before your period is due which is all done to hormones so for those of you who can't wait this is another great advantage.
The packet comes with two individually packed pregnancy tests and costs about £9 for a pack. The tests themselves are wrapped and you have to take off the protective wrapping before you use them. The test itself is basically a stick with a lid at the end. The lid covers the absorbent pad that you pee on. The tests themselves are extremely easy to use. You basically take off the lid and hold the other end of the stick. Then you hold the pad in your urine stream for 5 seconds. Make sure this is pointing down because that will effect the result. Then, once the five seconds is up, put the cap back on and wait. Be sure not to turn the stick upside down with the pad upwards because they warn you about not doing this. You can also collect a sample of urine in a cup and hold the stick in it for 20 seconds but this did not sound appealing to me.
Then you wait for about 3 minutes which is an agonizing amount of time. The test has a little digital hour glass symbol on it that will flash to tell you that the test is working properly. Then when the three minutes are up you get your result, as simple as that. If for any reason you have done the test wrong, ie held it upside down or not peed on it for long enough a book sign will be displayed to indicate an error and you will have to do another one.
My one criticism with this project is that because the reading is digital it only lasts for about 24-48 hours and once that time is up the screen will become blank. If you want to keep your pregnancy test as a momento this test does not lend itself to that unfortunately but really who wants to keep a stick with old wee on it anyway!!!
Well, my result was pregnant and I'm thrilled but very shocked that it happened so quickly. So now you can expect lots of pregnancy and baby related reviews from me as I've already bought a ton of books and can't wait for what the future holds!
