Advantages: Stops blistering with most shoes

Disadvantages: One pair of shoes still cut in, so perhaps doesnt work all the time?

I often find that my shoes rub on my feet causing painful blisters. I've bought quite a few pairs of shoes which look gorgeous but cut into my feet or rub, so I tend not to wear them very often. Realising how many pairs of shoes I have that fall into this category, I decided to see if I could get something to stop it.

I actually went to Boots in search of some anti-chafing gel I had seen on a TV advert, but when I was browsing the shelves I came across the Compeed anti-blister stick, and decided that sounded more like what I needed.

~About the product~

This product is designed to help prevent blisters and chafing from shoes. It also promises to provide an 'instant reduction' to rubbing from shoes.

The stick comes in a little green case with a picture of a foot on the front. If you imagine the solid deodorant sticks you get, you will be close to picturing this, as it's similar only a lot smaller, being about 2.5 inches high - a perfect size for putting in your handbag.

~Using it~

The first thing I noticed about this stick when I took the lid off, was that it has quite a nice smell to it. I hadn't really realised that it would be fragranced, but the ingredients list on the pack does state that it contains perfume, and it has a quite fruity scent, but it's not too strong or overpowering.

To use it, you simply rub the stick over your feet on the places that tend to blister. It glides onto the skin easily and actually feels quite cooling on the skin, which is great when it's hot, as it feels so refreshing.

The stick is white, but goes onto the skin clear, so you can use it with any pair of shoes and it won't spoil the look of them in the way blister plasters may do.

The first time I used this was with a pair of flat strappy sandals. I had bought them last year, and only worn them once because the straps cut into my feet. I wore them again earlier this year when it was sunny and again, they really rubbed and were painful to wear. I found the two places that they rubbed were the back of my heel and one of the straps at the front, so this is where I applied the stick. I wore the shoes all day and although I found that I didn't get blisters on the back of my heels, but the strap at the front still cut in quite a bit, despite having re-applied the blister stick quite a few times throughout the day.

The second time I used this was on a pair of peep toe heels. I wear these shoes quite a lot, but every time the front of them rubs just above my big toe, and in the worse cases has even bled. I actually have scars now because it's happened so often, but what can I say, I love the shoes! I wore these recently to a concert, and applied the stick above my big toe and for the first time ever they didn't rub, so I was fairly pleased about that.

I also used this last night on a new pair of shoes. I must admit I'd never worn them before, so I don't know if they would have given me blisters or not, but when I tried them in the house they seemed a bit tight at the front, so I put the sitck on all over the front of my feet. I wore the shoes from about 7pm to 4am and I have no blisters this morning (but I do have a headache!).

~Price~

This costs £4.39 from Boots, but is now on special offer at just £3.39.

~Conclusion~

Well this is good and I will continue to use it, as it does work to some extent. As I said, my flat strappy sandals still cut into my feet despite re-applying this a few times, but perhaps they were just too tight or something, as this seems to be the exception, and I have noticed far more positive results with other shoes.

My friend had some of this and I used it when my new sandals were rubbing not expecting it to do anything and was pleasently surprised how well it worked.
