Advantages: Very good at cleaning and helping with sore gums/mouth ulcers
Disadvantages: Tastes HORRIBLE and can be very expensive depending where you shop!
Corsodyl.
-Introduction-
Corsodyl is an anti-bacterial mouthwash which contains the chemical 'chlorhexidine digluconate'. It's primarily used for treating bleeding gums, irritated gums and mouth ulcers; however it can be used as a regular mouthwash too.
-Why did I try it?-
I was recommended to try Corsodyl after a visit to the dentist because of having sore gums and sensitive teeth. I've been using it now for two weeks and the difference is pretty amazing. The mouthwash is very powerful and cleans well, removing any nasty feeling on your teeth such as sugar build up and it also looks after sore gums too.
-Surely there is a downside?-
There must be a downside I hear you say, well to be honest there are two in my honest opinion. The first is the taste, it's not pleasant believe me. Corsodyl comes in two flavours; original and mint and neither are very nice. I have tried both and I can safely say the mint is tolerable at best in small doses. The original is aniseed flavour but just tastes plain awful.
-Price-
The second downfall to Corsodyl is the price. It is a double sided coin however as it depends on where you buy it. The dentist was selling it in the surgery for £5.50 per 300ml bottle which I thought was rather expensive so I didn't buy it from there.
However I did pop into my local Tesco which was a 5 minute walk from the dentists and I picked it up for £2.30. Tesco does both flavours if you want to try either so it does pay to shop around!
Summary: A very good product overall , just watch out for the taste!

- 24/01/09 It's not the world's greatest taste. There are actually two varieties of this - one meant for day to day use, and a stronger one to solve gum problems.
Some times, this stuff can turn your teeth and gums green, which is not nice. |

- 23/01/09 I'm sure I read somewhere (may be even on this site!) that prolonged use of this can cause staining to your teeth (but the warning on the bottle is in VERY small print!) Caroline xx |
