Advantages: Mild, bearable flavour, helped clear up my gum problems quickly

This review is about Corsodyl Original Mouthwash. I'm afraid I have no idea about the cost as I was prescribed it by my dentist (and get free prescription thanks to my maternity exemption card). I was having problems with my gums where my wisdom teeth are (still) trying to break through at the back and it had become infected so I was given antibiotics and this mouthwash to use.

I have never been able to use mouthwash, as it reminds me too much of drinking a shot and (seriously) ever since a hideous morning of dying/being hung over after tequila shots I have never been able to knock back another shot (even of water - the action makes me gag). So I smiled politely and took the prescription, not intending to even pick up the mouthwash let along use it, but the painwas so bad that eventually I was prepared to try anything.

I was extremely pleasantly surprised. Even pre-tequila-gate I could not stand mouthwash as I thought the taste was far too strong, and as this is medicated stuff and according to my dentist the best mouthwash available I was expecting it to be the worst-tasting, strongest one I have tried. I was very wrong.

It is not minty as you would expect mouthwash to be, in fact it has a very mild aniseed flavour. Thankfully, mild enough for me to bear despite hating the taste of aniseed. My mouth definately felt cleaner after using this and it certainly helped to clear up my gum problems, but I think I would have preferred the miny flavour as I like my mouth to feel minty fresh. However as the original was prescribed I had no choice. If I ever buy it again though, I think I will go for the minty one.

It comes in a brown bottle (like a plastic version of a traditional medicine bottle) which I think is to give it an image of a medical rather than a cosmetic product. It has a screw-off white top which you pour the liquid into and use it like a shot glass. The mouthwash is a pink liquid which you gargle for 1 minute then spit it out, although I rinsed afterwards as the taste it left was a bit too strong.

Corsodyl is an antibacterial solution which inhibits the production of dental plaque. It is used to treat and prevent gum disease, control mouth ulcres, promote gum healing after dental surgery or treatment, maintain mouth hygiene and manage oral thrush. The active ingredient is chlorhexidine digluconate. It can be bought over the counter or prescribed.

I found this to be an easy-to-use effective treatment for my gum problems and I would definetly buy it straight away if I had any future oral problems.
