Advantages: makes the mouth feel fresh & clean. Seems to live up to it's claims.

Disadvantages: not the cheapest or best-tasting mouthwash on the market.

If you've been kind enough to read any of my reviews you'll know that my husband had a whopping £4000 bill from our dentist. This was mainly for work on crowning which may partly have been caused through gum disease.

He was advised to use Corsodyl mouthwash which he buys regularly from the dentist which costs around £4.50 for 500ml.

It's by no means the nicest-tasting mouthwash nor the cheapest but (touch wood) seems to be helping keep at bay any further gum problems.

The bottle is plastic & has a screw top lid which also acts as a measure - this one is called 'Daily Defence' but they also do other types as well as a gel & spray.

On the front of the container it clearly states the following claims -
* effective plaque reduction
* up to 12 hour action
* daily cavity protection
* fights bad breath
* effectively proven

On the reverse it gives directions for use & lista all the ingredients (none of these make any sense to me but they are there if you need/ understand them!).

It recommends using the mouthwash alongside careful & thorough toothbrushing & to be honest, having tried this myself, it does seem to make my mouth feel extra clean & fresher than other mouthwashes & I'll continue to use it as a preventative against any dreaded gum disease.

The taste is minty (as described) but there is something else which I can't quite put my finger on - it's not too unpleasant but does leave a bit of an after-taste.

It's a clear liquid & easy to measure & pour.

The only thing I really don't like about it is the fact you have to wipe the bottle top each time you use it as any residue is sticky on the fingers & around the measuring cap.

summary
~
* so far so good - no signs of gum disease (fingers crossed!).
* not the cheapest nor the best-tasting mouthwash I've tried but seems to work & leaves the mouth really fresh & clean.
* bit sticky if you don't wipe the top & rinse the measuring cap.
* a good investment if you want to avoid high dentist's bills - worth a try.
ADDED 5/2
***** thanks for the comments guys - have been advised by some members that prolonged use may stain the teeth *****

Summary: worth a try if you care about your gums & teeth?

Yes it will stain teeth especially if you use it and drink tea/coffee or red wine within an hour. Prolonged use will need a number of hygienist appointments to remove the staining which can look unsightly on front teeth when you smile. Only really intended for short term use for moderate to severe gum disease.
