Advantages: Really does the trick.
Disadvantages: Foul taste!!
Corsodyl is a medicated mouthwash which treats the following:
Bleeding Gums
Irritated Gums
Mouth Ulcers
It is also used to treat gum disease, oral thrush, denture sores and can promote healing after dental surgery.
It comes in a 300ml bottle, the current cost of which is £2.78 in my local supermarket. Compared to the other couple of medicated mouthwashes they had on the shelf, this was the product with the mst liquid for the least cost. It comes in two flavours - Original (which I would say is aniseed) and Minty.
The bottle cap doubles as a measuring jug, you are to pour out the required amount (the bottle states different amounts of liquid for different ailments) and rinse mouth for one minute. This doesn't sound long - but if your mouth is very sore it will feel like forever!!
Corsodyl WORKS. I use it for mouth ulcers as I suffer quite badly with them, and it does the job for the ulcers in places that I can't reach with the Bonjela. It does sting when you rinse your mouth with it - but I believe that's a sign that it's working!! The aniseed taste is very strong and this may sound silly but you can taste that it is medicate.
I have an issue with a couple of my teeth bleeding after brushing, and I notice that this always stops for a while after using Corsodyl.
The bottle recommends that you do not brush your teeth immediately before using this product, as toothpastes can stop it from working properly. It suggests to wait five minutes after brushing before use. It also says that tongue and teeth discolouration may occur after use (personally I've never had this though) and says this can be reduced by not drinking tea or coffee for the first hour after using Corsodyl.
Overall I think this is a great product, even if it does have a foul taste.
It does the job, and that's what matters.
Summary: Try it, its not that bad....

- 15/04/09 My hubby loves buying this brand but I find it hurts/stings my mouth and so prefer a gentler mouth wash. |
