Advantages: Does what it should, cheap

Disadvantages: Aftertaste lasts for hours

I have always had bad gums since I was a kid. They often bleed when I brush my teeth, and the dentist has always told me I may have problems with them. About two years ago, I did! I somehow got gingivitis and had a real servere case of this! I was close to loosing some teeth it got so bad at one point. Any way, a trip to the dentist, some antibiotics and lots of Corsodyl saved the day.

So what exactly is this, and who will benefit from using it? Well Corsodyl is a mouth wash, it helps with bleeding gums, mouth ulcers and cases of gingivitis. It also helps repair gums after dental work.

In the past few years I have repeately had sore gums on and off. Everytime I feel any pain and can see the problem returning I start using this. And within a few days the problem generally clear up.

You should use Corsodyl twice a day. Morning and night are the obvious times. Do not use this straight after brushing as you would expect you should. Aparently this lessens the effect the mouthwash will have. Your best brushing your teeth, waiting for 15 minutes and then using the mouth wash. This is the most effective way to use the treatment. After using, avoid drinking tea or coffee or eating for at least an hour.

I am tempted to use this all the time, hoping my gums will never get sore. But my dentist says that doing this will stain my teeth. He has even suggested watering the mouthwash down slightly. Although when I use it for the odd week here and there have never had any problems with staining.

I usaully buy the mint flavor of Corsodyl. It's a kind of pinkie colour and doesn't taste to bad at all. However it leaves a taste in your mouth that lasts for hours! So if your not to keen on the taste you probably won't enjoy this to much!

There are warnings on the bottle that this can cause a mild burning to your mouth. Not a problem I have really had, just a tingle. It suggests watering down if this is the case. It also warns that occasionally an allergic reaction may take place, and you may get a swelling of the mouth and face! Nasty, although apperently this is very rare and if you do suffer any problems you should consult your doctor or dentist!

A 300ml bottle of this at Tesco will cost you £2.77. Which I don't think is to bad at all. If you use it twice a day, a bottle should last you about two weeks. So good value I think.

Overall this has been an excellent product for me personally. You may find other products are better for what you personally suffer from. But for treating bad gums and gingivitis this is one of the best mouthwash's you can get hold of!

Summary: A great product that will save your gums!

They also do a 'daily' formulation which is considerably weaker, and so may avoid the staining issue.
