Advantages: Antibacterial, prevents gum disease.
Disadvantages: Stains teeth.
This has to be the foulest tasting thing that I ever put in my mouth. The original version is bitter and leaves a quinine like after taste while the mint one tastes the same with mint. Rinsing the mouth after use destroys the benefits of the mouthwash, so it's a case of suffering.
Corsodyl is a mouthwash designed to soothe and heal mouth ulcers, sore patches, and other painful conditions of the mouth and gums. It is often recommended after dental work to help the gums to heal.
It does work, there is no doubt about that but it left me with badly stained dentures. Despite the fact that I removed the denture plate before using this mouthwash, I still noticed brown staining after a few days use. Nothing would remove the staining and even some months later, it was still visible.
This product is also available as gel and in spray form which can be used to treat very specific areas of the mouth, but I haven't tried either, so I can't comment. However, I have used Bonjella gel which is sold to relief mouth ulcers, sores, etc and I find that much more pleasant to use that the Corsodyl mouthwash. It is also very effective and doesn't stain the teeth.
Dentists recommend Corsodyl for the prevention and treatment of gingivitis and other gum disease. It has an antibacterial action that kills plaque bacteria that cause irritation and leaves a protective layer over the teeth that last for twelve hours and stops new plaque from forming.
Corsodyl is expensive at £3.95 for a 300mils bottle but I would recommend it for conditions that Bonjella won't solve. Corsodyl will deal with infection and fight bacteria so if you have problems that way it is worth trying. If not, Bonjella is cheaper and far more pleasant to use.
Summary: Stops pain form gum disease and other mouth problems but is expensive.

- 31/05/01 I am bothered quite badly with mouth ulcers and have had a couple of really bad gum infections. I use Difflam Oral Rinse. This is definately powerful stuff. I don't think that it makes the mouth ulcer go away any quicker but it sure does numb it to give some relief. |
