Advantages: keeps away urinary infections, good for antioxidants

Disadvantages: none

I used to get the odd case of cystitis and when I did I (like another reviewer mentioned) used to get the cranberry powders from boots which work very well. I then did a 30 day detox which included taking a cranberry supplement every day. After finishing the detox I continued to take the supplements as well as keeping up the healthy diet as much as possible. I have not suffered from cystitis since and I first did the detox about 2 years ago.

Cranberry is also supposed to help with gum disease and stomach ulcers as it contains proanthocyanidins which prevent the adhesion of certain of bacteria (that's how it helps stop urinary infections too). Its antioxidant properties may also help protect against heart disease. Not bad for such a tiny berry!

Obviously fresh cranberries would be the best but I don't like the taste and you would have to eat hundreds of them (well about a cup full) to get the same benefits as taking the capsules. When i first started taking them cranberry tablets where quite expensive but the boots ones are not too bad. Although I did find them in Asda on offer 2 bottles of 60 for £4.

The capsules themselves are small and easy to swallow and you only need to take one a day with a glass of water. The label says that they are not suitable for children under 12 years. They are also not suitable for vegetarians. But they are free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives

The other benefits all sound very impressive but I have no personal experience of them (touch wood!). But with regards to warding off urinary infections these little capsules are great and I couldn't recommend them more.

Summary: great for womens health!
