Advantages: Good range of glasses
Disadvantages: Expensive and misleading
I visited Dolland & Aitchison a while back in order to purchase some contact lenses. After paying £15 for a consultation, which basically involved having pieces of paper inserted under my eyelides (ouch!) I was told that my eyes were too dry for contact lenses. So I decided to purchase a pair of glasses, which were very nice but not what I really wanted and they were also very expensive (£140 and they weren't designer). I decided to have a second opinion (see other review) at Specsavers who said that I would be fine with lenses, and I have been very happy with them for a while now. I feel misled and missold by Dolland and Aitchison who just wanted to get me to part with as much money as possible.

- 23/07/00 Ok fair comment, I do also wear glasses and the ones from D&A were very good, can't fault them there. |

- 23/07/00 As an Optometry student and long term wearer of contact lenses I think you are being unfair to D&A. Suitability for contact lenses can be very much down to the judgement of the practitioner. Some people with dry eyes can wear contact lenses and some people with adequate tear films can't. Knowing the various problems that can be caused by contact lenses if the wearer is unsuitable, I feel that you were right to go somewhere that would be willing to give you what you wanted, that is your right. It is unfair to criticise someone who has your health at heart. Anyway, if you wear contact lenses it is essential that you have a pair of glasses as well for the days when you can't, shouldn't or don't want to wear contacts. |

- 13/07/00 Fine, but I got the impression that they would rather sell me a more expensive pair of glasses than contact lenses, but that is just my opnion. |
