Dolland Aitchison opticians

Broke my glasses yesterday so had to visit the opticians I thought I would tell you about where I go

I go to Dolland and Aitchison have been going to these opticians for about 20 years.

As a child it was discovered that I was short sighted when I was about 12 hated wearing glasses. As I matured I needed stronger glasses to enable me to recognise people the other side of the road
. I was involved in a serious car crash 22 years ago and developed a third nerve palsy in my eye. One of the nerves was broken and my eyes are not level, like a squint.

I needed to wear glasses all the time now and visited Dolland and Aichison where the optician a nice young man suggested I wear a corrective lens in one side of my spectacle to reduce the double vision I get (it works)
I have continued using this opticians ever since, .the nice young man doesn’t work there any longer though.

The shop and facilities have modernised since then.
I always find the staff pleasant friendly and helpful. Always doing a thorough check of my eyesight and the condition of my eyes.

Previously I have been into the shop because I have lost one of the tiny screws from the side of the glasses and they have rummaged through trays of screws and found replacement screws and put them in (free of charge)

There are deals that I have taken advantage of in the past two for one, free /reduced price sunglasses.
This time when I went into have my eyes tested I discovered I did not need quite as strong lens for my short-sightedness, but I do need glasses now for working at the computer (long sight) I know these are signs of aging.
They have now installed camera and television screen (not sure proper term/name for this) which enables you to see your face with the glasses on gives a better image for helping you choose the frame to suit you (mind you its scary looking at this face you can see al
l the faults and blemishes)
I had someone with me to assist with the choice if I needed it.
I had chosen a selection of glasses across the price range to try started by trying the cheaper ones and stopped when I found one I was satisfied with checked my face in the screen several times until I was happy
The optician gave a little advice when needed but only when needed was not too pushy.
I choose a pair with out frames the total price about £220! I could have had cheaper ones but I thought these suited me better and they were nice and light on my face did not feel heavy. I did not buy sunglasses as I have a pair from last year they will do and I have another pair with dark brown heavy frames that I wear for work, they are I think stronger if they get knocked off by the children!
Overall although the glasses from this may be a little more expensive than other places (I have not researched this) I am not sure if they are. The service and care I get from the branch where I go means I will continue there, shame the nice young man doesn’t look into my eyes any more.
Dolland and Aitchinson also do contact lens Ii wore these for a few years but find them difficult to wear now so have gone back to glasses
Thanks for the read Mary

Half the battle I think is to build a relationship with your optician. You are wise to stick to one shop.

Great op. I go to Specsavers for mine at the moment. Last pair were £129, although I got an excellent pair of sunglasses fro free.
