Advantages: It works

Disadvantages: price

Doublebase cream or gel as it is also called is a moisturising and protective hydrating cream which can be used for various skin conditions, especially dry or chapped ones which might be itchy, inflamed or infected.

The active ingredients in it are Isopropyl myristate 15% w/w, Liquid paraffin 15% w/w and the inactive ingredients are Glycerol, Carbomer, Sorbitane Laurate, Triethanolamine, phencxyethanol and Purified Water.

I first used it after I was prescribed it by my doctor for cellulitis on my leg after I'd had a week using a cortisone cream. It either comes in a tube or a large pump action plastic tub and to be honest it looks like a tub of cottage cheese but it does the business.

It's not an actual cream or gel, more like a mixture of both and feels greasy but it's not, once you've rubbed it in the greasy feeling goes, I've used this loads of times, mainly on elbows, knees and feet when I've hard hard skin and it softens it in no time.

I've seen various claims for it on the internet, it's good for cradle cap, stretch marks, eczema, psoriasis and other conditions.

I can't comment on these but for hard or sore skin especially on the elbows and knees it's the best I've used. It can also be used to wash with and they have now started doing a shower gel version.

It's not cheap, around £4.80 a tube and £10.50 for the large pump dispenser, but a little goes a long way, you don't need much as a small amount spreads and rubs in well. This is not one of those creams where you really have to lather it on.

I highly recommend this if you use emolients or if you have any patches of dry hard skin.

Summary: A top notch emolient
