Advantages: Natural, works for me

Disadvantages: Not cheap, may not work for everyone

The effectiveness of Bach Rescue Remedy will depend entirely on what you need rescuing from. If you are facing an attack from a grizzly bear whilst camping in a Canadian forest, for example, you will look pretty silly spraying this around. At best, and with a fantastic aim, you might get some in its eyes and slow it down a little, but ultimately you'll probably still wind up getting eaten.

However, if you are in need of rescuing from more common problems, such as anxiety over exams, driving tests, or just those everyday little stresses that can wear you down, then Rescue Remedy is for you. It promises to comfort and reassure in times of emotional demand, and in my opinion it works pretty well.

Rescue Remedy is a blend of five Back Flower Remedies (Clematis, Star of Bethlehem, Cherry Plum, Rock Rose and Impatiens) in a grape alcohol solution, which is available either in drop form or a spray. With the spray, you pump 2 sprays onto the tongue; with the drops, you use the small pippet provided to apply droplets to your tongue or dilute them in water to sip at intervals. The taste isn't too bad - just like a flowery alcohol, surprisingly enough - so I've never felt the need to dilute it. Both the spray and drops are pretty easy to use and enable you to keep a Rescue Remedy in your bag, ready to calm you down and put you at ease whenever you feel yourself getting worried.

Although I imagine the remedy won't work for everyone, for me it usually makes me calmer almost immediately. I have used it for minor stresses and full blown panic attacks and it's taken the edge of both. It loosens some of the tightness in my chest that goes hand in hand with anxiety for me, and helps me to step back from the situation and be slightly more logical. Some of this admittedly may be due to the placebo effect - you know you are taking something to help with the problem, and so that in itself makes you calmer and more positive. However, I do believe it is more than that as I have known people who are very sceptical take it and feel better, even though they didn't believe it would work.

I would say this is definately worth trying if you suffer from stress or worries (and who doesn't these days?). It's not cheap, at around £7 for 20mls, but it lasts for ages, and for me it's worth it.

Summary: Give it a try

I worked somewhere that sold this and me and the other girls used to bring in melon balls and drip rescue remedy onto them for a dessert at lunch! Didn't calm us much but tasted nice!

This works great on pets too..we got some when moving our very nervy cats and they sat happy in the car for once.

Not the nicest tasting thing - but if it works who cares?
