Advantages: Easy to use, palatable, natural, non-addictive, handy size

Disadvantages: Expensive, may not suit everyone, could be psychological

There's no doubt about it, I'm becoming a stress head. There seem to be so many things to stress about these days. If the credit crunch doesn't get you, there's always someone or something that can set your heart racing, turn your palms sweaty and generally turn you into a jibbering idiot. Well they can if you're me at least.

As I get older I've found I'm more prone to the symptoms of stress- total loss of memory on the spot, shortness of breath, an impending sense of doom and an intense need to cry.

A couple of years ago a colleague at work saw what a state I was getting into when I had to deal with a particular child on an hourly basis (I'm a primary teacher in a 'challenging' environment shall we say). She recommended Dr Bach's Rescue Remedy for several reasons.
1. It obviously worked for her
2. It was quick and easy to use
3. It was palatable

There are other positives that I can add to these:
4. It's in a handy handbag-sized bottle
5. The dropper helps with the dosage
6. It's non addictive
7. It's gentle on the stomach
8. It's natural
9. It has a long use by date
10. You can repeat doses if necessary

As soon as I tried it, I knew I would have to have my own supply of it.

So, I bought mine at Asda. It's currently available for £5.40 - expensive I know.

The small yellow box that it arrives in has a staggering amount of information on it for its size including directions, ingredients, and who it's designed for. Further to the information on the box there's also a leaflet inside which goes into much greater detail on one side and a small survey that you can fill in on the other side should you require information on other products or the Bach Training Programmes, whatever they happen to be.

The bottle itself is your typical dark brown glass medicine bottle colour with a black screw cap into which is inserted a pink rubber pipette. The trade mark yellow label is around the bottle again with directions, safety advice, ingredients, manufacturer's details and expiry date.

I have found that I am much more able to focus after I've used rescue remedy. I have taken up the piano in the last few years and am about to do my Grade 4 exam. I was relatively OK for Grade 1, but as the music gets harder so do the exams and I'm in a flap nearly every lesson now. Without my rescue remedy that is. If I have the four drop dose twice in the half hour before my lesson I'm a lot more able to complete my pieces, scales and other scary stuff with less gaffs shall we say because I'm able to focus on what I've learnt rather than letting the wave of panic take over me.

I've used the drops before meetings with difficult parents, important interviews and at big school presentations where I also tend to develop 'stage fright'. It has an instantly calming effect. My heart races less and I feel more confident that things are going to be OK. This has an impact on my public speaking ability and I can even muster the odd joke or two.

I used to get in a real state before a school show, but not anymore. It's reassuring to know that there is something completely natural that can take the edge off your nerves and deliver a more balanced feeling from within, giving an altogether more collected outward impression.

Unless you have an allergy to any of the following flower extracts -Rock Rose, Impatiens, Clematis, Star of Bethleham or Cherry Plum
in a grape alcohol solution- then I would heartily recommend this miraculous little bottle of calm.

It also comes in a spray or pastille form which I have tried but prefer my drops. I like the fact that they can be taken 'neat' or added to tea or water and that you can repeat the dose at intervals (not stated on the bottle what the intervals should be though) until you feel the benefit.

I still get stressed, I worry and fret and my body has to deal with the effects of that, but it deals with it a lot better with rescue remedy, so thankyou Dr Bach.

Summary: A remarkable little remedy

I used to use this to help me on planes, fortunately frequent plane travel over the last few years has cured me of my fear but this stuff did used to work.
