Advantages: Natural product that really works.

Disadvantages: None.

Ear wax is a substance produced in the ear to provide a protective layer against bacteria for the ear drum and ear canal lining. The ear wax naturally and gradually falls out of the ear and is replaced. Some people, myself included suffer from increased production of ear wax which can form a solid plug in the ear, affecting hearing, causing earache, and feeling unpleasant.

For me, this happens about once per year. It's possible to get the blockage cleared at the local Doctor's surgery, but I only visit my GP when I have to, so turn to Earex Ear Drops.

In these days of hi tech manufactured pharmaceuticals, it's refreshing to find an effective product that's made from natural ingredients. Earex Ear Drops is a blend of equal thirds of peanut, almond and camphor oils, and nothing else.

The 10ml bottle costs around £3 and is more than enough for a single treatment. Unfortunately, once the bottle has been opened, it can only be kept for eight weeks, so I end up using a new bottle each time I need it.

The Earex bottle has a small dropper inset into the top. The liquid is clear and colourless, with a strong (but to me, pleasant) camphor smell.

Treatment is easy, the head is tilted to one side and four drops dropped into the ear. I must admit to disliking the sensation of feeling the drops fill my ear; the liquid feels cold and causes a strange sensation as the fluid settles in place. The sensation does not last long, however.

The head is kept in the same position for two minutes, and then a small plug of cotton wool is used to seal the oil in the ear. The softened wax/oil mixture is absorbed onto the cotton wool which can be removed after a few minutes. You may notice a small amount of oil and wax seeping out of the ear during the day. This could be embarrassing, so I make sure I wipe any oil away as soon as I feel it. It shows that the product is working, however.

The addition of the drops is repeated, morning and night for up to four days until the wax has softened. With the oil gradually and gently softening the wax plug, it's likely that the plug will be removed without the need for a trip to the Doctor's (I've been lucky, all the times I've applied Earex, the ear has been unblocked within three days at the most).

If, however, the ear drops do not work, then a visit to the GP is recommended (trying to remove ear wax with cotton buds or other implements inserted into the ear is not a good idea; damage can result).

I always dread the feeling of a wax-plugged ear and can't wait for it to be cleared. I keep a fresh bottle of Earex Ear Drops in my medicine cabinet for such an occasion (it has a five year shelf life, so I buy it in advance). Having used Earex for many years, I'm completely confident in using it and know that it will do the job. If you suffer from a build up of ear wax, try Earex. It's much safer than trying to remove wax 'by hand'.

Summary: An ear wax treatment that can be trusted to do the job.
