Advantages: Can help boost immune system
Disadvantages: pricey, not necessarily effective
Echinacea is supposed to boost your immune system (by boosting your white blood cell count I think). I'm not a big expert on Echinacea, and there are some brilliant pieces already on dooyoo by people who seem to know what they are talking about. I do take it on and off however when I feel my immune system needs a boost. The first time I tried it, I was really ill for a couple of weeks, and was a bit disgusted that it hadnt seemed to help. However when I looked into it more, experts recommended taking about 1500 mg when ill, and the tablets I had got from Boots were only 200mg! I learned then that it is always important to try and find out what dosage you are supposed to take! Taking it in a higher dose I have found it more effective. I dont take it very often though. All the reports stress that if you take it too regular you will become immune to it, and it wont be effective. Some reports say have 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, others that you can take it up to 8 weeks at a run, but to have a good break after. I suppose its up to you, and why you are taking it at the time. It can be expensive, but I always pick mine up from places on special offer.
