Emulsifying ointment thats part of my family for poorly skin
Member Name: Chippytarka
Advantages: Provides moisture and a layer of protection to the skin
Disadvantages: Greasy in texture
My daughters skin when she was younger became very itchy and dry in specific areas such as elbows, knees, under the chin and I later found out she was suffering from Eczema. Eczema tends to look like very dry, sore and cracked skin. Alot of children tend to suffer from this and can grow out of it ( fingers crossed my daughter will be one of them ), and its very difficult to treat as each case and person is different. So what will help one person my not help another. But with many skin conditions such as Eczema, Psoriasis and Dermatitis its very important to keep the skin hydrated and supple and this product is designed for that.
What is Emulsifying Ointment?
Emulsifying Ointment is a moisturiser that helps to protect and moisturise the skin by providing a layer oil on the surface of the skin to help it stop dehydrating. Regular use can help skin be supple, smooth and hydrated.
It can also be used instead of soap when washing to prevent drying the skin.
What are the ingredients?
Emulsifying wax 30%, white soft parafin 50%, Liquid parafin 20%. Due to the nature of these ingredients, its important to take care around naked flames due to product being flamable.
How is it packaged?
Its very basic. In comes in a standard tub 500g, with a lid that screws on and off.The label has all the relevant information on it such as expiry date, ingredients. The tub itself is very robust .
How to use?
Really depends. Mine was from the doctor so the instructions were to use at night. This is the case for both myself and daughter. I think this is because its such a thick and greasy product, its not something everyone would or could use throughout the day.Not the most practical. But I put this on myself morning and night because it keeps my skin hydrated and less itchy throughout the day, and I simply wont have time to apply any other form of lotion on myself throughout the day.So this really lasts well on me.
So I would assume that this ointment would be used when often in any other case where instructions havent been given by a doctor.
What do I think of product?
Firstly, it has no smell which is great. It wont class with any fragance or fragrance products I may be wearing. It very thick, similar feel to vaseline and when its very cold is quite solid. Best thing to do is warm some up in your hands, this makes it alittle more lighter in texture an easier to apply. Its white in colour and very greasy. Alittle goes along way so you dont need much. You will need to give you hands a good wash though as you may feel hands have got alot of product on it, making it slippery and greasy.
Personally, this works well for myself and my daughter. It literally provides long lasting moisture to the skin, and even when I feel my skin is getting on the dry side, I can slap more on if needed. Its perfect to use after bath/shower, as your skin is still warm and it soaks in easier. It is greasy, but I dont mind that texture and by now used to it.
Since I get it from the doctor, I had no idea how much this was to buy on its own, and didnt realise how cheap it was, its around £2.00 for this whopping big 500g tub of goodness. Its a simple and basic product that for myself and daughter works well with skin conditions by making the issues more managable, but not taking it away ( I wish! ).
