Advantages: Great cleaning and stain removing results
Disadvantages: Not a wonderful flavour. Not the cheapest of products
A few months ago I was having a bit of a worry about my teeth, I'm not sure why but I felt like I needed to give them a real good cleaning, much more than normal, I felt like they could do with a real thorough scrubbing to get them really clean and sparkling. Of course you shouldn't scrub hard with your tooth brush or you run the risk of damaging your gums, and most tooth pastes aren't at all abrasive either. I really felt like they weren't getting my teeth clean. Then I remembered a product I used to use from time to time back whenI was a child. It was a toothpowder called Eucryl. I wasn't sure if it was still in production so I googled the name and found that it was.
The next time I went into town I popped into my locla Wilkinsons where I normally get my toothpaste etc and checked if they had it. They did, in fact they had three different varieties, I decided to go for the extreme version. It was a bit more expensive than the toothpaste I normally used but I wanted to give it a try so I got it anyway.
That night when I went to brush my teeth, I opened the cardboard box and inside was a plastic container with a screw on lid. It was a different and smaller container to what I remembered as a child but once I took the lid off it was very much as remembered, a greenslightly course looking powder. I wet my tooth brush, shook off the excess water (to ensure it didn't drip into the plastic container which would make the powder all sticky) and dabbed my toothbrush into the powder a nice coating stayed on the brush.
As I started to brush, my first sensation was of a very dry mouth as I started to spread the powder around with the brushing, however this only lasted for a few moments as the powder mixed with the moisture in my mouth and formed a good and plentiful paste, giving me plenty to clean to my teeth with. The second sensation was the flavour, it's sort of minty but there is something about it which is a little odd, I can't quite put my finger on it. It's not the most pleasant of flavours, not like some toothpastes which you could almost eat, but it's not unbareable (unlike original sensodyne, in my opinion...). The slightly strange flavour lasted quite sometime after brushing which I would have prefered it not to but it wasn't the end of the world.
Onto the actual cleaning. upon beginning to brush and the paste forming, I could actually feel that it was cleaning my teeth quite well, even without much pressure from the toothbrush, the mild abrasive nature of the product really felt like it was working well but not too hard, I never felt like it would damage my teeth. After rinsing, I ran my tongue over my teeth and they felt lovely and smooth and clean, much more so than they had been after brushing with my normal toothpaste. I was very pleased with the results.
After having used the powder for several days my girlfriend said that my teeth were looking whiter and much more sparkly than they had been, I was really pleased about this. I had also been feeling like they were much cleaner than they had been for a while and they felt much nicer, much like when you have just had them polished at the dentists.
I have continued to use Eucryl since then and am still very pleased with the results. Ok I'm still not 100% sure about the flavour, I think it could do with improvement but as for the actual results, it's great! It is marketed as being great at removing stains caused by smoking, tea, coffee, red wine etc, now I don't smoke and I don't drink any of those so my teeth have never been too far from quite white, and even I saw a nice improvement in my teeths whiteness, so I was very pleased. A grear product which I would very much recommend.
(be careful not to drip water into the container or get it otherwise damp and it can make the whole lot become one big sticky mess which makes it harder to use, though it is just as effective)
Summary: A very effective teeth cleaning solution
