Advantages: Cheap, economical and works at whitening teeth a little!

Disadvantages: Doesn't taste great, is messy to use and my teeth don't feel all that clean after using it

When it comes to brushing my teeth it's something I'm really very fussy about. I brush them twice daily and I am constantly worried about their cleanliness and whiteness. As a smoker and a coffee drinker my teeth can look look yellowy and stained and try as you do to get them looking white and sparkly...well it's not really all that possible! I do got to the dentist every 6 months, I do use Colgate whitening system and I use Dentyl mouthwash and I floss and I even own some stuff you stick in your gob with a tray thing acting as an at home bleaching kit once a week lol. However try as I do I'm not all that happy with my teeth!

So because I'm paranoid I do tend to look at what's on the market to try and this had escaped my attention. I had seen it but never paid any attention to it so when I saw it in my local Sainsburys (available in all good supermarkets and chemists and places like that) I decided I really must try it out.

The Packaging:

The tub comes in a metallic and green cardboard square box. On the front of it I'm told in blue and white writing that it is Eucryl Toothpowder 'Freshmint Flavour EST 1900' and that it's a powerful stain remover. On the back of the box I'm told a bit about the product, directions for use are given, contact details for Thorton & Ross are given (the manufacturer of the product), size is stated which is 50g and there is a bar-code on there. Nice enough box and distinctive it is. The tub that the product comes in is white and round and not all that deep and the lid is easy to pull off as it has a sort of lip to it. On the top of the lid I'm basically told the same information as on the box.

A Bit About Eucryl According To The Information Given:

Eucryl Toothpowder has been used throughout the world since it was first used in 1900. Its unique and thorough polishing action will leave your teeth bright and feeling really smooth and clean. Eucryl Toothpowder helps remove stains caused by smoking or drinking tea, coffee or red wine.

Also available: Eucryl Original flavour ad Eucryl Freshmint.

Me Using It:

Well when you open the tub up you are instantly met with a bright green powder smelling quite strongly but naturally of freshmint. It's a pain to use this cos as soon as you open the lid the powder flys everywhere cos it's so fine.

All you do is wet your toothbrush, tap off the excess water and shove the head of your toothbrush into the powder. The powder clings on and some of it goes a darker green colour and then you get into cleaning your teeth.

It foams up a little and tastes ok but it does have a powdery taste and add to that it has a powdery feel when in use too. However as you rub it over your teeth it does become smoother but doesn't feel the same as a conventional toothpaste out of a tube, it's thinner and it feels more abrasive.

Saying that it isn't uncomfortable to use it's just a different sensation.

I clean my teeth for about 2 minutes and rinse my mouth out and it's job done! Simple enough!

Results:

Using this is easy enough apart from the mess of the powder going everywhere! The results however are 50/50. Lets look at the negatives first. First off I'm left with a weird taste. Not particularly fresh but a bit powdery on my palette really and breath isn't left smelling minty fresh at all. Teeth don't feel all that clean either and I feel that's because my mouth doesn't taste all that good or refreshed. I'm promised smooth teeth and yes I get that on the outsides of my teeth (the visible fronts) but behind my teeth and the one's not on display they don't feel smooth so don't feel all that clean!

However... my teeth are visibly brighter after using this. Ok lets not get too carried away and hail this as a miracle product but yes I had a good look at my teeth before using this and a thorough look after using it and yep I'm sure that my teeth were a little whitened and they looked sparkly clean. I did notice that when I spat the mixture out of my mouth that the colour that came out was murkier and I felt that had come off my teeth and tongue!

So my verdict is that this isn't bad. Some aspects of it are actually awfully good and I'm sure that although my teeth didn't feel all that clean they were due to the colour being lighter of my teeth! Me I'm not enthralled by it but shall definitely find a place for this in my regime!

Summary: 50/50!

Interesting - perhaps use this then a mouth wash for the fresh taste and wash away the grainy texture
