Glucosamine is found naturally in the body. It is an amino sugar (aminomonosaccharide – amino = protein; monosaccharide = simple sugar) which contains sulphur and is used for growth and repair of connective tissues, joints and cartilage. It is found actually IN the cartilage, but less so as we age. (Glucosamine isn’t the only substance in cartilage that diminishes though, so it won't magically restore all cartilage that has been lost). Glucosamine sulphate is the first product I have tried that has significantly reduced pain and swelling. I have ongoing problems with my hip following a car accident, and regularly take pain killers, and have injections. This product has worked miracles! I swear by the stuff! I have been taking glucosamine since June 2000 and I can honestly say it beats even the best painkillers. Here is my story! When I was in my early teens I suffered from agonising knee pains and my parents fobbed me off with 'growing pains' saying that it would get better when I stopped growing. But it didn't - in fact they became worse. The pains, although intermittent, were in my knees, ankles, wrists, shoulders and neck.
