Advantages: Effective, No side effects for me anyway, Easy to get
Disadvantages: Can be expensive
I swear by the stuff! I have been taking glucosamine since June 2000 and I can honestly say it beats even the best painkillers. Here is my story! When I was in my early teens I suffered from agonising knee pains and my parents fobbed me off with 'growing pains' saying that it would get better when I stopped growing. But it didn't - in fact they became worse. The pains, although intermittent, were in my knees, ankles, wrists, shoulders and neck. I have a form of arthritis - ok, so it is mild by most standards as I only get 'attacks' every couple of months, but when I do get them they are disabling. I had to take time off work and I couldn't even go out because the pain was horrific. My boyfriend hated the way it would take me 10 minutes to climb down the stairs in the morning with each of my joints clicking and crunching!! And I am only 25 years old! We were in Cambridge for a weekend away and the pains came on again. I took the usual ibuprofen and paracetamol, but they didn't really touch it and my boyfriend suggested going into a health shop to ask for help. I admit I was not convinced they could help me, especially as I have a medical background and believed that if conventional pain relief didn't work you were stuffed!! Anyway, I agreed to speak to the assistant and she recommended glucosamine tablets - she said that many people swore on it's effectiveness. They only cost about £6 for 30 one-a-day tablets. So, I took them everyday for a month and as |I didn't have any pains continued to buy 120 capsules from Holland & Barratt, and a year on from taking them I had no pains to report! Then I ran out, and forgot to renew my supply. Within 2 weeks of stopping them back in July the pains came back with a vengeance!! I was on a weeks annual leave and spent the whole week in agony. I soon replenished my supply from www.pharmacy2U.co.uk, where they were on special offer ... and
from my experience I will continue to take them for ever more!!! I think they have made a difference. It completely stopped my pains and attacks, and when I was off it the pains came back. Draw your own conclusions! There are articles on the internet that support the use of glucosamine with arthritis, and even medical related research. It is worth a go. I was sceptical, but I certainly think it has made a difference. You can get glucosamine in a variety of formats - sulphate, chondroitin, high strength etc. I have tried all of them and have not noticed a difference. The only difference seems to be in price. Good luck!!!
