Advantages: Kills nits dead., Keeps them away.
Disadvantages: Can't think of any
I have dredd-locks, which nits tend not to like in the first place, as it is hard to roam around freely. However, because I am white my roots grow straight. If I don't twist up the roots every month or so, the roots grow quite long and are free and loose: perfect for nits. I have 3 children who go to school and nursery and, low and behold, I had not twisted my locks for a couple of months and some nits chose my head for their new home. The first I knew about them was the incredible itchiness at the back of my scalp. I sleep on my back with both arms under my head and I found two patches of rash on my arms, which, again were very itchy. Turns out that the nits were biting my arms. Hundreds of tiny red itchy dots on the soft part of my lower arm. I finally caught one of the little blighters and was horrified to realise that the itching and rash was due to my having nits. I went to the chemist and bought some nit killer, did as the bottle said, but to no avail. Nits stayed in locks. I bought another bottle of chemicals that claim to kill nits, again, to no avail. Could not outfox those nits in locks. Finally, I went to my health food shop and was recommended to use Thursday Plantation Tea Tree pure oil mixed with a little water, and Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner. Outwitted and fixed those nits, now gone from locks! Nit-wits, don't pit your wits 'gainst Tea Tree Oil. Anyway, nits were never to be seen again. I have used Tea Tree oil, shampoo and conditioner ever since. On kids and myself. I have also bought some Body Shop tea Tree facial wash which leaves my skin feeling very refreshed. By the way, although the kids go to school and nursery and I can only assume that I caught the nits off them, I never, ever, found any in their hair! Twilight zone!

- 08/11/01 I have the tea tree oil on standby as my eldest is at nusery but I always keep her hair tied back :-) |

- 18/09/01 We use the condition/comb method to get rid of nits, but a preventative way is always the best. |

- 28/08/01 I have used tea tree for a while now. It is also good for cuts and grazes when added to the bath water or for spots |
