Our children are 2,6 and 9. The problem of nits seems to come and go throughout the year for most parents. It seems that when they start school they will almost inevitably get nits at one time or another,particularly when they are younger.

Having read bad reports on the chemicals used in many of the shampoos we decided on buying one of the electronic nit combs. The bug zapper was £20,this is basically an electric comb.It works on batteries,sending a small charge across the comb that kills eggs and nits on contact. Although it is easy to use we found it to be too unreliable, the slightest piece of fluff or hair caught in the comb would stop it from working. This was sometimes difficult to clear.

In the end we stopped using this and bought an old fashioned fine toothed comb, using this regularly together with tea tree oil shampoo has cleared up the problem.

Although it only takes one child in the class whose parents don't bother to check the hair for it to start all over again.
