This is a tough one for any mum. Just thinking about headlice makes me feel itchy. I have read a number of the comments in the reviews here and I concur, most of the advice will work some of the time for some of the children, but there are one or two tips that have not been mentioned here, so, I'll go for it. As I may have mentioned, I ... Read the complete review

Another treatment that I got in my local pharmacy was Lythrin - it's Permethrin creme and takes 10 minutes to kill the lice and the eggs. I'v used stuff before that only kills the lice and then you have to wait for the next batch of lice to hatch before you kill them too... how hideous. I think that one was called Headrine.
Anyway, Lythrin seemed to do the job - I put it on Josh's hair for a bit longer to make sure the lice were well and truly dead.
To be honest I think it's good to use diferent stuff as lice do get used to one treatment and can live through it. I think the one I got was about £3.99

Head Lice: The best product i found was called HLS Shampoo from enquiries@esprotection.com. It was great, used once on all the family, fantastic. I was most impressed it did not contain any nasty ingredients. It cost £12.00 plus £2.50 delivery for 500mls. I was worried about the debris left by some products -but that is also covered as they is a free double action comb with each bottle, is also great for cat grooming.

I've tried a few things but the best treatments I've found are those with essential oils and neem oil. Quassia chip extract is good too - it was widely used during the last world war to combat head lice - before those nasty chemicals emerged. Nice 'n clear has neem and essential oils and it works but it is rather smelly and so not ... Read the complete review

One of the hazards of my job is that I am prone to headlice infestation. I have had it several times and have only used chemical treatment once. I don't make any medical claims but this works for me. Even though I am an adult, nits/lice love my hair: 1. Wash your hair thoroughly, massaging the roots well. I have done this with ... Read the complete review

My children suffer from head-lice and I have tried several products to rid them and none have worked. My children also have very fine hair and not one nit comb touches their hair so I have the pain staking task of having to go through their hair with my fingers. A couple of years ago whilst on holiday I checked their hair and ... Read the complete review

As some of you may know from previous ops, I am a hairdresser by trade and this is one area that I have had lots of experience I would rather not have had! Head lice in schools is no longer a growing problem, it's an epidemic. None of the chemical treatments work and then there are the worrying reports that they could cause cancer to boot. ... I know the first thought on Nits is to wrinkle the nose and squirm. But if you have children it would be very very unusual if your family were to escape having them. Children put their heads together when chatting and hey presto those little erbs have gone from one head to another, one family to another. Usually schools ... Read the complete review

Head lice - the perennial problem of anyone who has schoolage children. Getting rid of them is hard in todays medical world. The reason for this is that many lice are resistant to the common agents used, because people have not used them as per instructions properly. My suggestions are simple but require a little application. ... Read the complete review

For years I had heard other parents discussing the many unpleasant virtues of head lice. Indeed going back to my childhood, I can vividly remember the regular visits of the ‘nit nurses’ to our local school. Luckily, they never seemed to like to accommodate themselves in my scalp, so I never even knew what one looked like. My ... Read the complete review

I have dredd-locks, which nits tend not to like in the first place, as it is hard to roam around freely. However, because I am white my roots grow straight. If I don't twist up the roots every month or so, the roots grow quite long and are free and loose: perfect for nits. I have 3 children who go to school and nursery and, low and ... I have tried several lotions for nits and in my opinion none of them work because the nits are immuned to all the lotions. I think that if ALL parents treated their childs head with conditioner and a plastic nit comb I think we could tackle the problem.
