Boots SleepeazeTablets
by kama0529
Working both day shifts and night shifts, as well as having kids and a partner who is an insomniac, often means that my sleep cycle is so all over the place that I really struggle to get to sleep. I have tried a number of remedies for this, both pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical, one of which is Boots Sleepeaze 50 mg tablets. I have ... read some of the reviews on these tablets online prior to buying them and so I had high hopes. You can buy them directly over the counter without prescription, and a full patient information leaflet is enclosed that talks about doses, side-effects, warnings and contraindications for this medication.
These tablets come in a box containing 20 tablets and currently costs £4.59. Only one tablet is required per dose and so each dose equates to 23p each, which doesn't seem a bad price if it gets you a decent nights sleep. However, it is worth noting that Lloyds pharmacy make their own tablets also that have exactly the same active ingredient and this costs 50p cheaper. The active ingredient is Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride 50mg which his actually an antihistamine, but one of the side effects of the antihistamine is drowsiness and so this is why it is possible to be used for sleeplessness also.
As I said, only one tablet for a full dose is required, about 20-30 minutes before bed time. They are easy enough to take and I haven't had any side effects (other than drowsiness) by taking them. Having said that, they also don't always seem to work for me either - and sometimes they can make me feel worse rather than sending me to sleep. The thing is, about 50% of the time, they do a good job and they do help to send me off to sleep - and when I wake I do feel more rested. The other 50% of the time, they do succeed in making me feel drowsy but not in sending me off to sleep, and on these occasions I tend to feel even more tired than I would have done without the medication. And for this reason, I am sometimes reluctant to take them, just because I don't know why they sometimes work for me, and sometimes they don't!
I would recommend that those having occasional sleep problems do try them - because when they work well they are great....but unfortunately I just can't count on them working all of the time. Read the complete review |

Boots SleepeazeTablets
by 2night
Having had little to no luck at all while using Kalms sleep aid (I have recently written a review for that product) I was still desperate for something to help me get a more restful, peaceful, full nights sleep. I am prone to finding it heard to go to sleep at a reasonable hour, even if I'm totally exhausted and had been up since 6am ... that morning. It's true that I am a night owl but most night owls then sleep during the day, I can't do that. More times than not I would have had little to no sleep at night and then have to travel and sit in class all day where I would then be struggling to stay awake (how frustrating). I also work as a singer and lack of sleep can be heard on recordings, a lacklustre vocal performance is not what my clients want. I have been using ear plugs to block out noise as I try sleep at night ( I'm also a very light sleeper ) and they work great. But noise is just one part of the problem, trying to turn off my brain and drift away seems to be my biggest problem. And as most of us know lying in bed wide awake isn't the best thing to do as problems, situations, and worries always find there way into your mind and set up shop determined to make you feel as miserable as possible.
Having tried the "herbal" alternative and not wanting to take the more heavy form of sleeping pill that my doctor was willing to prescribe I decided to try these Boots Sleepeaze Tablets as they contain Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride, this is commonly used in non prescription sleeping pills and sleeping aids. Boots sell two different boxes of the same medication under the same name. The only difference is the milligram dosage per pill. You can either buy the 25mg box of 20 pills, they cost £2.85. Or you can buy the 50mg box, also of 20 pills, and they cost only £4.59. I decided to buy the 50mg, my reason for this was the fact that I would have been taking two of the 25mg each night, so why not just take one 50mg pill instead and in the long run they would work out much better value.
They both come in identical light cardboard boxes which are a dark blue, starry night sky design. Inside the box there is a foil blister pack of pills each housed in their own individual pouch. There is of course the all important information leaflet included. As I always say when reviewing medications please make sure to read this leaflet the first time you are going to use the medication. And every time you purchases the same medication again, as the information on the leaflet may have been updated since the last time you looked. New side effects and warnings are being reported and added every day to medications. Also it is your right to ask to see the internal leaflet before purchasing. These tablets are of course not within reach of the public, they are always held behind the Boots pharmacy counter so remember to ask there.
These pills are NOT to be taken by persons younger than sixteen years of age and are not recommended for persons that suffer form asthma (of which I am one, but thankfully I had no adverse effect and I of course asked my doctor before use). They should not he taken in conjunction with alcohol and will result in drowsiness so don't drive of operate heavy machinery. There is a full list of dos and don'ts on the leaflet or the Boots website.
I took one of the little, round, chalky 50mg pills with water as directed 20 minutes before bed. Within a half an hour I was feeling nice and relaxed, turned off the light and it took me around another ten minutes to fall asleep. I was glad to find that I wasn't drugged out of my mind, as I woke just like I normally would a couple of times that night. The only difference was I was able to go back to sleep quite quickly. I'm glad to say that these pills have worked for me. I don't take these every night, not even every week. I tend to take one of these if I know I'm going to have trouble sleeping that night because I have something particularly annoying on my mind. Plus they tell users that continued use will result in diminished effect of the active sedative ingredient.
The following morning I wasn't sluggish like you can be after a heavy sleeping pill, or a sleepless night. I just felt rested and refreshed, once I woke up fully that is. I'm like a zombie for around a half an hour after first getting up and these pills or any pill in the world will ever change that.
These didn't turn me into a scene from sleeping beauty with me singing to the birds with a manic smile on my face. They just made me feel like I had a good nights sleep and that's all I wanted.
Thanks for reading :0) 2night.
These are available at most Boots pharmacies for £4.59 Read the complete review |

Weight Watchers Points Calculator
by flodombey
I follow the Weight Watchers plan and find this little device is an absolute godsend to keep in my handbag. In recent months it has been replaced in my life by the Weight Watchers app (which contains an online points calculator) but if you do not have a smart phone then this really is an essential bit of kit.
Effectively, what ... it allows you to do is quickly and accurately work out how many points a particular food item contains based on the nutritional information. You literally just import the information into the calculator and it will give you the points value. Mine is actually different from the one shown in the photo at the top of this page because I have the new version for the Propoints plan.
I paid £10.95 for this item and bought it at a meeting - but you can buy them from the Weight Watchers website and actually you can frequently find them for sale on ebay (which is where I got rid of mine when I realised the web app had the same tool included).
Because it is small enough to fit in your handbag and very quick and easy to use I would recommend this to any followers of the Propoints plan as a very handy bit of kit. Not only does it allow you to work out the points of items it also allows you to track daily and weekly points used - again I use my phone to do this now but if you do not have this availability it is a fantastic little gadget to carry with you and to help you stay on track with the plan.
If you are determined to stay on track and use the plan then this is a very worthwhile investment and I certainly felt like I got my moneys worth out of it while using it. Read the complete review |
