Advantages: Actually work, easy to apply, ease pain, natural

Disadvantages: Little bit expensive

I suffer from awful headaches just before I am due to have my period. Each month 2 or 3 days before the date it is due a headache will start to creep up on me. I usually take paracetamol for headaches but I saw these Kool 'n' Soothe gel sheets on an introductory offer in Boots one day and threw a pack into my basket to put in the medicine cabinet as I thought they sounded like a good alternative to paracetomol.

Kool 'n' Soothe comes in two different types - one is just "Kool 'n' Soothe" which is the pack used for children and the other is called "Mirgraine Kool 'n' Soothe" which is what I purchased. I can't remember how much it was because it was on offer but a pack now costs £2.99.

Kool 'n' Soothe is pack of soft gel sheets (there are 4 in a pack) and they are designed to give relief from headaches and migraines using a cooling system. Kool'n' Soothe is not a drug. What it is is actually a gel strip which is very squidgy and you can feel that when you touch it and when you press it against you head. The gel is also bright blue (a little bit like a toilet blu!) and has a little crisscross pattern over it. It is a natural form of pain relief in that it is believed the cooling action of the gel will soothe away your headache without having to use drugs.

Using them couldn't be anymore simple. All you have to do is peel away the back to the strip which covers the adhesive gel side and then apply the strip to your forehead, gently pressing it into place so that it sticks and it should soon start to work on cooling you down and easing your headache. The strip sticks very well and I have never experienced one falling off before. When it comes to removing the strip it is as simple as 1, 2, 3 and it just peels off leaving no sticky residue on your head.

I always feel the strip working as soon as it has been put into place. I get a lovely cool and tingly sensation as the gel starts to cool my head down and unknot the tension in my head which is causing my headache. These have never got rid of my headaches completely but they make them into just a dull ache which allows me to get on with things.

You can wear the strip for up to 6 hours though I would not advise going out wearing one as they are really very visible and people would think you had lost the plot a little bit, I think!

I do think these are a great way to relieve the banging sensations headaches sometimes cause but I do prefer a paracetamol to get rid of my headache completely. I highly recommend these though if you have children with a headache or you prefer natural methods to get rid of such things. I do think they are a little expesnive when you consider that you can buy a box of paracetamol for less than 20p nowadays. Ultimately I think this will put people off of buying the Kool 'n' Soothe gel sheets.
