Advantages: A natural way to ward off colds.
Disadvantages: None
Lets transport ourselves back in time for a moment and think about how our ancestors coped during periods of illness. The major drug companies weren't in existence, there was no chemist to nip along to, no pharmacist on hand to offer some friendly advice, so they got on with life and did the very best that they could do with the equipment that nature had to offer.
Ancient healing concentrated on every part of the body, holistic healing was then the keyword. Mind, body, emotions and spirit were all taken into account as a cure was sought.
Now the first sniff sends us flying off to the Doctors surgery thinking we have contracted some deadly virus and medical research is as it has never been before.
No longer do we have to go herb hunting to make that crucial potion, all we need is there either in the health food store or the chemists.
But it still never ceases to amaze me how much trust our forefathers put into natural healing.
I would suppose that one of today's main uses for garlic would be in the kitchen, used to flavour many different foods.
I enjoy the whole garlic experience, the stronger the better but as we all know the next day we have the `Battle of the breath !`.
The ancient Greeks swore by the bulb, it was considered an aphrodisiac, although interestingly enough Hippocrates recommended eating lentils if you wanted to stay virile in later life.
Until the discovery of penicillin in 1928 the Russian army used garlic to help heal their wounded soldiers and today herbalists worldwide still sing the praises of the humble bulb.
Garlic is a member of the onion family, each large bulb is made up from many cloves that are joined together. Today the pungent bulb is used both in medicine and in the kitchen to enhance the flavour of certain foods.
The bulb is separated into cloves and then each clove is peeled, the outer coating of the clove can't be eaten.
I rather expect that you are wondering why I am writing about the life and times of a garlic bulb when we are meant to be reviewing Kwai Garlic tablets but it is helpful to have some background knowledge about the bulb that is used to produce the garlic tablets.
Maybe many people would shy away from the whole idea of taking Kwai garlic tablets on a day to day basis thinking that they would become a social pariah due to the lingering smell that seems to last forever after eating it. Lets face it, if you stand behind someone who has recently enjoyed a meal laced with garlic then the experience isn't among the most pleasant ones that you will ever have. The smell of the garlic even seems to seep through your skin, although the meal was so good at the time it is very hard to disguise the fact for a long while afterwards!
Kwai Garlic tablets are odourless so there are no worries on that score, you taste nothing when you swallow them and they leave no strong smell in their wake. Each tablet is coated 60 times to ward off any unwanted after smell.
How can taking Kwai Garlic tablets regularly help us?
That is a good question. A few years ago I was constantly catching a cold. I just put it all down to the fact that my immune system must have been low at the time. No sooner than I had got over one bout of the sniffles the next was on it's way, it was getting past a joke.
So, on one of my frequent visits to Holland and Barrett I decided to pick their brains. Immediately they suggested taking garlic on a daily basis, I admit I was not either impressed or convinced!
So the assistant and I systematically worked our way through the benefits.
Just one Kwai Garlic tablet will help to top up your levels of Vitamins C, B and A. If you are prone
to catching colds then the garlic can help to see it off that much quicker.
Kwai garlic contains a wealth of minerals , all of which are very valuable to our bodies.
Apart from helping to ward off and lessen the impact of colds it also plays a valuable part in helping maintain regular blood pressure.
It is also said that a daily intake of garlic can help lower cholesterol levels, although certain studies seem to think that this may not be the case.
Anyone who suffers from catarrh or rhinitis would be well advised to try the Kwai garlic tablets.
There are a couple of do's and dont's regarding the Kwai garlic tablets. If you tend to be prone to allergies then Kwai advise that you don't take the product. They also mention that they aren't suitable for pregnant women.
One more small point, taking garlic tablets can lead to wind building up inside, so be warned!
There are two types of Kwai garlic tablets in the shops, the first is Kwai One-A-Day, it contains 300mg of concentrated garlic powder.
They come in packs of 30 or 100 and they can be bought from all the major chemists and health food stores.
A pack of 30 will cost you £4.95 and you can take them for as long as you like.
The second tablet is Kwai Ace One-A-Day. These are the tablets that I buy, these have vitamins C, E and A added to them.
Again you can take these tablets for as long as you like, they are perfectly safe. This version is £5.95 for a box of 30.
The small white tablets are easy to swallow and as long as you remember to make them a part of your daily routine you soon get into the habit of taking them.
As I said earlier in the review I am prone to catching colds and it is so uncomfortable if you are constantly sniffing and sneezing. Kwai Garlic tablets have been an effective part of my daily routine for a long time now and I fully intend to keep on taking them.
The months supply costs me nearly £6, so it is no dearer than paying for a monthly prescription from the doctors and probably a far better way to cope with the problem.
Summary: If you tend to suffer from a lot of colds then give Kwai A try

- 10/05/09 I'm betting the lentils are the reason the Ancient Greeks declined as a civilisation... |
