Advantages: Works on short hair

Disadvantages: Doesnt work on long hair

For the fast effective treatment of head lice and their eggs you want Lyclear crème rinse or so Lyclear would have you believe. I used this on my son when he was a year old and had ended up with head lice after his sister's birthday party and to be fair to Lyclear it worked but he had hardly any hair and therefore the job was made easier.

A year later almost to the day after yet another party and I find my daughter has them so out with the Lyclear once again but this time on my daughters long hair and very different results. It is apparently quite usual to find eggs left over in longer hair and Lyclear themselves say you should comb the hair through to get rid of any eggs but it was not eggs we found but live head lice so clearly the Lyclear crème rinse had not done its job.

We had followed the instructions to the letter just as we had done with our son, shampoo the hair and towel dry, shake bottle thoroughly and saturate the hair with crème rinse taking care to get behind the ears and the nape of the neck where head lice live, left it on for ten minutes as instructed then rinsed and dried yet when we combed through the hair as instructed to remove any eggs or dead lice we found live lice instead and even after a second treatment they were still there.

A trip to the chemist later and a bottle of some other type of treatment the name of which escapes me and the little fu***rs are gone, leaving me with the opinion that Lyclear may be ok for short hair but useless for long!!

Summary: Better not taking the chance with this stuff if you have long hair!

The problem is that head lice have developed immunity to most of the products meant to kill them so wet combing is really the best way to deal with the problem....which is a nightmare if you have a girl with long hair as it takes ages.

I always tea tree shampoo on my daughters hair. The little blighters dont like the smell of it. You can buy a large bottle from Tesco for about 65p.
