Disadvantages: None I can think of
First time I ever came across head lice, I was certainly not familiar with them, I didn't have a clue what they looked like or knew much about them! I remember when I was about 6 or 7, my older sister coming home from school one day crying. I remember my parents rushing her into the bathroom and when she came out a lot later her hair was covered in something very greasy and smelly! The school nurse had sent her home when she had found head lice. Oh, it was a bit of a taboo subject in those days, it seemed that only dirty people and gypsies had nits and God forbid should your child come home with them! You would certainly not talk about it as you didn't want neighbours or friends knowing! I was then subjected to about half an hour of my mother pulling at my hair and screaming at me to keep still, whilst looking to see if I was infested too! Luckily I didn't have them then and never came home with them throughout my school years.
Years and years later I had my daughter, and not long after starting reception she came down with chicken pox. Every night she would lay there vigorously scratching in her sleep, especially her head. Little did I realize that she had caught the dreaded head lice who were feeding on her sweet blood, until about a week later on one sunny morning when I was hovering by her side whilst she was eating her breakfast. Spotting a little creature walking about on her hair, my first thought was that it was some little insect, a little fly or something, and actually picked it off with a tissue. Then I saw another one and all of a sudden I thought oh my god, are these nits? I screamed, my partner appeared and a couple of minutes later he confirmed my worst fears, yes she had nits and there were plenty of them.
I rushed down to the chemist to buy some treatment and was really not bothered about how much I'd spend as long as I could get rid of the nasty little parasites. The chemist recommended the Lyclear Crème Rinse as she said it was both very effective and reasonably priced, so I bought the one that contains two bottles of 59 ml each; first one was to be used straightaway and the second one a week later, as any eggs remaining will hatch and need killing again.
The solution is suitable for adults and children over 6 months of age and can be used by asthmatics. It is easy to put on and rub in, it is not too runny or too thick and there is plenty of it in one bottle even if you have longer hair. It doesn't smell bad either and after 10 minutes or so you can rinse it off. After leaving it on for 15 minutes as a precaution and whilst rinsing it off with the shower I could see them all, dead, floating away, proof that the Lyclear Creme Rinse had worked. Running the comb through her hair again just to make sure, I was relieved that there were no more. Every day for seven days I checked and checked and then did the second treatment just in case. That whole month I must have checked her hair every single day and nothing. The Lyclear had worked! My daughter did not have them again for another 3 years and then one day she came home with them again. The Lyclear Creme Rinse did the job again and then 4 months later again...and then again. I now keep a spare pack in my cupboard just in case and she has her hair French-platted every day for school as well as covered in tea tree oil spray. I just wish they would bring back the school nurses to check kids' hair and send them home until they've been treated as it is obvious that many parents do not bother and so it becomes a vicious circle.
I found the Lyclear Crème Rinse to be effective, easy and quick to use and reasonably priced at around £6 to £7, a lot cheaper than other products which cost sometimes double or more. The fine comb provided also makes it good value for money as they alone cost, so I would definitely recommend this to all you head lice haters.
Summary: Cheap, effective head lice treatment
