Advantages: Nice taste

Disadvantages: Not strong enough for a very sore throat

I was surprised to see these in their fancy new packaging as I always remember these being in a standard sweet pack with each sweet individually wrapped in their little paper wrapper. The lozenges themselves have also changed. They used to be square but are now oval in shape. This I find is a better shape as the move more smoothly around my mouth as the chunky square ones used to hit against my pallet. That shape would sometimes irritate an already sore mouth as most people will turn to these to try and sooth a sore throat or irritatingly trickily cough.

The small cardboard box that these lozenges come it small enough for anyone to carry in their pocket or handbag. The box has a clear cellophane covering and then once that's removed there is a hinged like lid that opens to reveal the sweets and their lovely menthol scent. And then closes back down covering the opening sufficiently enough to keep them protected but if you happen to tip the box upside down, or they happen to shift in your bag they will spill every wear. Another thing is if you do carry these around in your pocket they will soon heat up and become tacky. Strangely I have never counted how many lozenges come in each box but there is enough that you don't feel ripped off.

When it comes to taste these taste exactly as I remember them from growing up. They have a lovely, strong, comforting taste. They not only sooth my throat they also help me breath a little easier (through my nose that is). The lozenge has a somewhat fruity flavour but the overwhelming taste is of menthol. These glass like hard boiled sweets are always tempting to have a good old crunch on, but I find they of course last longer but you feel the effects better if you suck them. Do this at least until they become tiny little things, then crunch away. For a very bad sore throat where it feels like you have swallowed a spoonful of glass every time you swallow these really don't help. I would avoid any sweet or lozenge other than Strepsils when it comes to that kind of situation . The reason I prefer Strepsils is that they have an antiseptic, numbing ingredient that really helps when your throat is in shreds. But for a trickily, itchy cough. Or a bunged up nose these are good for that.

They are also just a nice winter sweet. These like all products sweetened with artificial sweeteners can have a laxative effect if consumed in excessive amounts. I have never had this problem while eating these sweets but I do know that diabetics can be very sensitive to artificial sweeteners and do regularly suffer this side effect.

Plus one other more positive thing worth adding is that these lozenges make your breath very sweet smelling. They mask any strong food odour, even garlic.
So suck on one of these then feel free to kiss away. That's what I'll be doing.

Thanks for reading :0) 2night

These can be bought in most Boots stores for around 90p a box

Summary: Recommended for a reasonably mild soar throat
