Advantages: Taste great

Disadvantages: No relief on sore throats

I'm a huge fan of throat sweet and as soon as I feel the tiniest of niggles I go out and buy a new packet. I think I must of tried every different brand and flavour going! The most recent were these sugar free blackcurrant Tunes.

The sugar free blackcurrant flavour of Tunes are available to purchase from supermarkets, newsagents, I purchased mine from a local chemist. A pack of these will cost around 50 pence. There aren't any side effects from taking these once in a while but if you have one after the other they do act as a laxative.

The tunes come in a rectangular shaped cardboard box, to get into the packaging you just lift the top part of the box up and it will reveal a big hole where you can get the individual lozenges out. The main colour of the packaging is purple to tie in with the blackcurrant flavour. I'm not sure how many lozenges come inside the box, but it's a 37g box and I would estimate at around 10-15.

After opening the box up you are met with the purple lozenges that are oval in shape and a couple of centimetres long, the colour of these lozenges is gorgeous! The small is quite strong after opening the packaging and they do smell like blackcurrant. I find the taste of these is quite subtle compared to the smell as I was expecting them to be quite strong but they aren't, although they are sugar free, they still have a sweet taste to them.

I usually use throat sweets as soon as I get a niggle in my throat. These Tunes aren't a great way of relieving the scratchy feeling I get as they don't work very well. They contain menthol which is a well known ingredient in cough and cold remedies but it isn't a great help at soothing sore throats. I think these Tunes are more of a general cold sweet rather than a specific throat sweet.

I love the taste of these sugar free blackcurrant Tunes and would say they are one of my favourite tasting throat lozenges but the effects are pretty poor on sore throats. If you are like me and use having a sore throat as an excuse to munch through throat sweets then these could be for you, however if you are looking at relieving a sore throat I wouldn't recommend buying these.
