Well, here I am; sucking on a white plastic tube full of nicotine. I have to say, I'm enjoying it a little too much. Sure I'm not smoking, but I've replaced it with a plastic security blanket.

I live in Canada and the government has a free smoking cessation programme wherein they send you the stop smoking aid of your choice. This was my choice as I was not a super heavy smoker, only smoking 12-15 cigarettes a day. The other choices: gum and the patch, were meant for people who smoke upwards of 20 a day and contained enough nicotine to harm me.

The taste is not quite as satisfying as a ciggy, but I guess it shouldn't be. It does tend to dry out one's throat. I've been carrying around a Nalgene full of sweet iced tea since I started this a week ago. It does seem to do it's job though. Whenever I have a craving, I suck back some of my personal drug and it just goes away. My cravings aren't lessening, but cessation is an uphill battle.

I haven't had to go and buy a refill yet as I was given a 5 week supply, but I think it will last twice as long as intended. I have only been using 3 or 4 cartridges a day as opposed to the 6 that the directions recommend. As I understand it, the inhaler is one of the less pocket draining methods out there.

I hate extol the "fun" there is in this form of NRT, but it needs to be touched upon. I was at the pub last night with a bunch of friends and I just whipped my little tube out and started puffing away at the table. The waiter asked me to take my ciggy outside and when I told him it wasn't actually a fag he oohed and ahhhed over it while I showed him what was inside.

I still feel rather strange sucking on plastic, but at least I'm not killing myself so quickly anymore. All in all, the inhaler is a good thing.
