Advantages: Really helps in the first two weeks of giving up, is relative cheap and easy to use,
Disadvantages: Need more inhalators in the larger boxes, can give you a slight tickly throat
Well I am now in week 6 of my non smoking, I never thought I would have lasted a week let alone 6 so I am really pleased with myself and I have to admit that the main reason is this little nicorette inhalater, and my willpower, I brought the trial pack for about £5.45, it contains a white almost whistle like at one end tube, that you twist in the middle and then insert a nicorette cartridge which contains a small dose of nicotene and some menthol, it says on the leaflet that one cartridge is the equivelent of 3 cigarettes, but you would have to puff on it continously for 20 minutes to get the equivelent.
When you first start taking this you can feel the hit of nicotene enter your body which does tend to calm you down and reduce your cravings, the pack recommends that you take 6-12 cartridges a day, however I felt that 2-3 was enough. I did wonder if I was ever going to be able to live without this little stick, but the embrassement of putting it in your mouth whilst at work and being told " Oh is that what it is I thought you had a tampon in your mouth" was enough to make me realise that maybe I should limit the use to when I was safely at home.
The first week or two I did rely on the cartridges alot and I bought the larger pack of 42 cartridges as it worked out cheaper overall, but the downside is if you chew the inhalator alot like I do then you want to replace them quite quickly, and I don't see why you should have to spend another £5-£20 on another box of cartridges just to get another inhalator. What would be good is if they would sell the inhalator's by themselves for expert chewers like me as I still have two packs of the cartridges left from the pack of 42.
One of the downsides is that it can leave you throat feeling abit tickly, but if that is the only downside compaired to smoking I was quite happy to put up with it.
On the leaflet it also gives you the details of how you can join the active stop website and text service. I did and I can honestly say this has helped me too, they send me a text message every evening and I have to reply yes or no as to whether I have had a cigarette or not, it is not a premium rate number to reply, I checked my mobile phone bill for the number and it is included in my monthly free text messages, so no cost involved if you are on a contract.
I really do wish anyone that wants to give up smoking all the very best, the inhalator has really helped me.
Summary: If you are serious about giving up try this, I wish you all the luck in the world with giving up.

- 13/02/09 Well done reaching 6 weeks :)
I bought some of these when I gave up as a back up, luckily I never had to use them. I just keep them in the cupboard 'just in case'. |
