Advantages: Cheaper than cigarettes but only just
Disadvantages: Nightmares, nausea addiction to nicotine
Proud to say it is now my fourth month without a ciggie touching my lips. I live with a person who smokes so I felt it was a little harder giving up with someone who happily drags away whilst you try your hardest to kick the habit. However I had tried several times before to give up the cancer sticks but to no avail. I tried gum but found that I could still stick it on the dashboard of the car to light up when I was stressed in a traffic jam. I tried an inhaler and found myself "tripping" quite happily each time I dragged on it. Then finally I tried the patches. Not just nicotinell but other brands. The trouble was yes ok I stopped the fags, but it didn’t stop my craving for nicotine. In fact it was worse. These patches don’t come cheap (ok ok cheaper than ciggies admittedly) so when I got to buying these things a packet a week just for the nicotine kicks I decided they really were not for me. For a start it was costing as much going into town each week and finding myself giving excuses to the counter assistant who each time handed them over to me with a strange look in her eye! I found myself at the stage where I would immediately reach for a patch each morning to go with my morning coffee. It was then I decided to quit the patch and go back onto the ciggies. What concerns me is the amount of nicotine actually going into your body each time you put a patch on. The nightmares I had with them were so unreal. I would wake up with the sweats, nausea and papitations. But because I wanted to give up smoking I was determined to see them through. Thats when I realised if I really wanted to stop the habit of the patches AND smoking I knew there was only one way.... PURE WILLPOWER. Yeah it does sound corny doesn’t it? But the truth is it’s worked. I don’t yearn for a smoke. I don’t enjoy having it blown in my face and I can honestly say that when I snuggle up t
o my man I find it hard to believe I smelt like the ashtray he does. You have the will power. If you can say No to chocolate, the kids your partner and the dog when he needs walkies, you can say it to your hand each time you reach for the pack. Willpower is in us all. You have to find yours, remind it of its job and put it to work.
