Advantages: It doesn't taste too bad

I have tried most of the current smoking cessation products on the market, including nicorette gum. This is my experience!

I was a 20-25 a day smoker and knew gum alone was not enough to break my smoking habit. It is however very useful in conjunction with other aids. For example whilst a nicotine patch will deliver slow release of nicotine into the bloodstream it can be a bit boring in that it doesnt really take care of the oral side of smoking. I started my quit on patches but felt i needed to 'do' something so when i got a craving that the patch wasnt taking care of i used gum as my secret weapon! You simply chew it a couple of times to release the nicotine then 'park' it in the side of your mouth until you need/want to chew it again. I didnt find the flavour lasted particularly long - I used the 4mg strength (you can also buy it in 2mg) but i did find it very effective in relieving that 'angsty' feeling you get when you want to reach for something (a cigarette) but can't!

I do believe it is effective used on its own for some people with iron will power but for me i had to use it in combination with another product. I havent smoked for over a year now, but every now and again i will still chew a piece of nicorette.
