Advantages: they stopped my craving - can be bought for a pound

I have tried many different NRT methods one of which was nicotine gum. I would advise that if you want to try nicotine gum then have a look in your local poundland first as it is generally on sale there for a £1 and if you dont like it then you havent wasted too much money.

You are only meant to use upto 15 each day so if you replace each cigarette with gum and you are a heavy smoker you are going to fall short or 'overdose' I think these are meant as an additional aid really to will power and other NRT therapy etc.

The gum can be bought in different strengths (which release different levels of nicotine) I bought the 2mg niquitin from poundland which had 12 pieces in it. But the packs can cost upto £6 a pack on the highstreet (or you can get it on prescription which is good if you get them free but more costly than the shop if you have to pay the fee)

It says it is 2mg mint gum however I must warn you that there doesnt seem to be a hint of mint in there it has a 'burning' taste which is not pleasent when chewed you are then meant to hold it on your cheek and chew again to release the nicotine.

It did actually work and my irritability faded as I got my nicotine hit and I didnt have a cigarette but I personally couldn't use these long term as they taste so bad. (I have only used 2 pieces out of the pack)

Overall I would say they are worth a try especially if you only pay a pound for them but personally I couldnt handle the taste and wouldnt use them. Although they may suit other people better. They did work and stopped my craving but when my next craving hit I really didnt want another piece of gum. My prefered and and most successful NRT are patches which always work with a bit of will power its when you come off them that its the problem!
