Advantages: easy to use, clear directions, stick well & don't pong

Disadvantages: not suitable for everyone

I have to admit that I've smoked for too many years & hate to think what it's done to my health & my bank balance. Both my parents smoked but I can't blame them - I chose to smoke & stupidly started on my 21st birthday - the worst 'present' ever!

I've tried a few times to give up & hubby succeeded but I remained addicted, my daughters are both anti-smoking but everyone seemed to nag me which just stressed me out & made me want to smoke even more.

Enough of the excuses.....

I 'm still getting over a series of bad chest infections plus pneumonia & have spent the last few weeks traipsing either to visit my GP or our local chest clinic at the hospital. Surprisingly nobody really suggested quitting smoking as I wasn't classed as a 'heavy user' but having observed patients coughing & having breathing problems, yet leaving the surgery/hospital couldn't wait to light up, made me re-think what the heck I was doing.

I'd priced these NiQuitin CQ patches in Lloyds for around £12 for 7 & hesitated - I know it's cheaper than smoking but times are hard... (another excuse!) but as I'd invested in a pre-payment prescription for medicine my GP issued me a script.

They come separately wrapped in little plastic wallets which you just cut open with scissore. I'd tried patches a few years ago but they smelled revolting & didn't stick - but these have no odour & stick perfectly without peeling around the edges.

Full instructions on using them plus advice on quitting smoking & a helpline is provided which helped give me an incentive. There's a step 1,2 &3 plan all with varying amounts of nicotine - step1 is 21mg,step 2 is 14ml & step 3 is 7mg.

I must admit that although I didn't expect the patches to work that well I was surprised how good they are. I wouldn't say that my desire to have a cig has gone by any means but I don't feel I HAVE to have one & know that if my craving grew there was some way of getting support.

I haven't experienced any side effects & my desire to smoke has lessened each day I've been using them so I would recommend giving these a try if you want to give up smoking.

However, it does state on the box that '..designed to support your wish to stop smoking' so some willpower is required. It also states that the product isn't designed for non-smokers(?!), occasional smokers, under 12, those with heart problems or anyone suffering from allergies to the ingredients (listed on the box).

summary
~
- well worth a try if you want to give up.
- not suitable for everyone.
- well packaged & good support system available through NiQuitin.
- don't smell, stick well & each patch lasts 24 hours.

Summary: well worth a try if you really want to quit?

I quit cold turkey a couple of years ago from being a 30-a-day smoker. It was bloody hard work, so well done you for giving it a go. xx

Well done for taking action! I tried patches but they brought me out in a rash so it's good they suit your skin. Good luck!
