I've been a member of a couple of opticians, and these are definitely the best yet. Firstly, when I lost my contact lenses, I popped in and they gave me a couple for free. It's a real community place where they get to know you (unlike my last opticians). Prices are good, with contact lenses for just £9 a month (although that doesn't include contact lens solution which I pick up cheaper on Ebay). Eye tests are thorough and informative - they actually tell you what's happening which is a new one for me too! There's always that awkward moment where the opticians face is right in yours, and you're trying not to breathe because you're afraid your breath smells. It's odd how this is one of the only places our sense of personal space is so invaded, and yet we sit there in silence.

In terms of the actual opticians (the people) there's never been the same one there twice when I've been, so if you're looking for a regular person who knows you and your eyes, then you may be better with a smaller local opticians.

When I moved across the city, I rang to see if I could transfer my membership from one branch to another. Within one day, they rang to say my paperwork was ready and now at the new store! I love the way they put me first, and they always ring when my contacts are in stock.

There are lots of glasses to choose from, ranging in price from cheap to dead expensive, and the £200 pair I bought 4 years ago is still going strong.

Summary: The best around in my experience.
