Advantages: Took away the itch, cheaper than the allergy ones

Disadvantages: Didn't last as long as the allergy ones and still left some redness in my eye

I have suffered from hay fever since I was a teenager. Although it isn't as bad as some peoples hay fever it is still bad enough that in summer if I don't take medication for it I get symptoms including itchy red eyes.

Even with taking medication my eyes can still sometimes bare the brunt of it if I have been exposed to a lot of pollen.
I bought some Optrex itchy eye relief drops last summer during a time when we had been on holiday in the Lake District and my eyes were feeling particularly bad and the local chemist didn't have any of my usual allergy eye drops.

I was hoping that these would be a good substitute and they were though I still prefer my normal allergy ones.

They cost me £3.50 for a 10ml bottle which I thought was quite good as my normal eye drops for allergies cost me nearly £6.
You use as you would any other eye drops by dropping a couple of drops in each eye and blinking several times until the drops have been dispersed all around the eye balls.

I found that these gave almost immediate relief to the dryness and itchiness that I get in my eyes and they did take a away a lot of the redness though I noticed that there was always still a little bit of redness left in the whites of my eye even after having used them a few days. I wasn't really bothered by this as I only really bought them for the itchiness which actually makes me want to scratch my eyes out sometimes and for this it did take it away and allowed me to actually get on with my holiday without having to constantly rub my eyes which actually makes them worse in the long run.

The only problem I found with these is that although they did work they weren't as long lasting as the allergy ones and the itchiness came back quite quickly after having used them when I was outside. They were a major life saver at night though as they let me get to sleep without itchy eyes keeping me awake.

I would always stick to my allergy ones when my hay fever is causing me problems but these were a decent substitute and I would definitely buy them again if I was stuck somewhere and needed something to take away the itch.

Summary: Not as good as my usual allergy ones but a good substitute
